Smith didn't have a bad night, and he didn't have a great night, he got the job wrong. At the end of the day the 3 people who matter made the decision. 3 people who i am sure you would all agree are respected as ref's, and make good calls. I honestly had no doubt that smith had won before the verdict came out, and i was more surprised at the majority, rather than UD. Quigley i felt was spoiling all night. but i can deny he was a much tougher customer than i gave him credit for. I personally felt it made for compelling viewing. Just because a fight is not edge of your seat all the time, doesn't mean it isn't interesting or entertaining
As you can probably appreciate, i am not privvy to this ins and outs of what goes on between rival fighters on a personal level. What i do know, is that a fight between you and smith would be far more explosive than him and quigley re-match. It is difficult to get in to a debate with you about this, as i have big respect for you and smith as fighters and the various qualities you both possess, and i dont want to come across as being a kiss arse for either of you. But i am sure you would step up when asked, and when the time comes, smith will step up himself. It is just the politics that could get in the way of this fight happening
I think throwing in the word privvy swung it for me! lol But seriously, i would love to see you both get it on. Any word with what is going on with you currently Tony, as i believe haymaker and the current situation with them is a bit of a stumbling block
Thats the point mate he always does get it wrong, he got the nodd cause he is the Warren fighter, he would throw a good shot or two then just stand there and try and defend himself, why not keep the pressure on?. I also think he lacks physical strenth he was being bullied and pushed around by Quigley an awful lot.
I think his training actually showed in the championship rounds, as quigley was ****ed from 10th onwards, and smith came on stronger. I can see how people see it from the other coin, quigley putting smith on the back foot sometimes, but a lot of smiths best work came from being on the back foot, i.e. counter punching etc. I think he did what a lot of people have been looking for him to do in the past, and not keep steaming in, as he was easy to hit. I think he fought intelligently, and didn't take too much on the whiskers, conserved energy, and did enough to nick rounds. In the past he has gone steaming in a bit too much sometimes, and took shots he didn't need to, and didn't do that last night. His work was cleaner, and more crafted. I think this is what caught the judges eye in the end. I am not saying quigley wasn't in with a shout though, he fought a good fight, and on another night nmay have got the nod, i just happen to think the right fighter did get the nod, regardless of him being a FW fighter
I was wondering why Quigley gasses and then read in his 60 second interview inside the Boxing News that he's been a vegetarian. Maybe that's a reason behind it...i'm not to keen on non meat eating fighters...i know Tim Bradley does it in his training camps but as in normal day to day life i feel it's beneficial to eat meats...maybe i'm wrong.
Don't know enough about diets etc to say whether that would be a factor or not, but interesting to get a different slant on it
i am a smigga fan and have met him a few times and he really is a genuinely nice fella, but this is a good shout here!! i think he does need to get off his high-horse and start proving why hes cut from a different cloth. maybe he will have learned a lot from this fight! im not gonna judge whether he shud go back down to 160 on this fight. i wanna see him fight someone who isnt a trained mma grappler before i make a judgment on that one :thumbsup
Personally I had Quigley up about 3 rounds, but admit that I was probably wrong and wasn't scoring properly. But have to say a rematch doesn't exactly fill me with huge excitement and I think that Smith would do a better job the next time I would prefer to see Paul take on Tony would sell well and would be a cracking fight.
