I train at a martial arts dojo and every month the head coach brings in renown martial artists and holds a seminar for students to learn. Last month we had a Krav Maga instructor come in and show us a few self defense moves. Pretty damn good seminar and is really effective. I wouldn't mind training it if it was offered on a weekly basis.
krav maga is great in theory, but to get to level of proficiency for it to improve your streetfighting ability beyond say boxing, bjj, or judo, you'd really have to be very into it. Still, just learning the theories behind it would be beneficial.
lolz, no not like that, i mean i got into boxing, not cause i was getting picked on, but because i love boxing, and wanted to compete, so idk, these self-defense classes seem to be just for women to prevent from getting robbed or something like that
I second this I trained in it for a bit, and I didn't learn alot, its over priced and watered down The way they train the armies or whoever to use it is intense, all day training, again and again so it gets drilled into your head and its like second nature If I had the money and the time I probably would have a go, get into it properly, knuckle down and I can see it working but turning up twice a week and rushing through a bunch of moves without perfecting any will not get you anywhere (we spent 45 mins of a 90 minute lesson on warm ups so we didnt pull any muscles) Maybe I just had a bad teacher, but the version that they are selling to everyone (because it has turned into a massive money maker for them) was crap, inefficient and sloppy 3 months krav training did nothing for me, then I started boxing and within 2 months I was in the best shape I'd ever been in, and I knew how to throw a punch properly (another thing thats wrong with Krav but I won't rant on, I could be here all day )
Krav Maga can teach you how to survive someone putting a gun into your back, knife to your throat, etc. As great as boxing is in general and for self-defense, it certaintly doesn't prepare you for those types of situations.
Does Krav Maga has sparring? I have seen some videos and its strange to me,wont say much, because I dont know much so dont take me too seriously, but some things seems not practicable to me.
Like look at this video [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C3XNDyVXRg&feature=fvwrel"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C3XNDyVXRg&feature=fvwrel[/ame] wouldnt in real life the gunman's finger be probably on the trigger? seems like huge risk to me that when you struggle to get the weapon he could pull the trigger intentionally or not intentionaly while trying to grip to his weapon.
In real life, yeah. He doesn't have his finger on the trigger so he doesn't get his finger accidentally broken or whatever when the other guy practices the technique. The first thing he says "redirect the line of fire". So what if he fires, if the gun isn't pointing at your head it isn't going to kill you. It's a risk worth taking in a life or death situation if you ask me.
I haven't done Krav Maga but I've been and watched some classes and spoke to the instructors. The training is the same as any martial art really, conditioning, stikes, restraints etc etc. The difference with Krav Maga over other martial arts is it's a fight for your life not learning hundreds of techniques you'll probably never use. In classes you'll be put in a scenario, like you're walking to your car and somebody grabs you from behind, you have to react using techniques you've learned. It's a lot more practical than other martial arts. You do sparring, but it can get very messy. The whole point is to stop the initial attack and prevent the attacker chasing you down, allowing you to escape. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as it works, so technique can get fairly sloppy.
