my cousin s interested in doing this, he's young only 23 i told him to fight amateur instead but for some reason he insists on doing this anyways is white collar boxing safe? meaning is it sanctioned? and are all safety measures taken, ring doctors etc?
I do white collar boxing now, I boxed amateur when I was a teenager, didnt box for about 10 years and now I do white collar. The fights are 3x2 minutes or 5x2minutes, 16oz gloves are used in the ring and you can choose to wear headgear if you want to. The shows Ive boxed on had a paramedic at ringside and my blood pressure and stuff was taken before the fights. You dont have a medical by a doctor like in amateur though. I think white collars good for ex amateurs who want to box again for a hobby or beginners if they just want to box for fun. Anybody looking to become a champ someday should start in the amateurs.
I got about £350 for my first one because I got commision for selling tickets, for my second fight I was the away fighter and got £150
Its safe and fine, you got paramedics ringside and usual safety checks before fight, 10oz gloves and I fought without headgear. Only thing to watch out for is I dont think the amatuer ranks will allow you back in if you have participated in any non ABA appproved bouts, such as white collar or pro boxing.
Not enough serious competition in white collar boxing (at least here in the UK) to get enough experience for the pro's IMO. In ABA's you have a good measure of your level, whether you reached national, international comps.
basically though i could use my amateur experience to kick some ass in the white collars and get some good exposure though
You wont get much exposure from white collar boxing. There are some experienced white collar boxers, some are former pro's too I believe.
--------------------------- You would have to be some serious scumbag and a major coward to enter a white collar boxing event as an ex pro or experienced amateur. I mean you would have to be a COWARD to do that. I had my first fight against a guy more experienced then me which I was cool with but it wasn't that much of a gulf in class. But if I got in the ring with a guy who I later found out was ex pro or an experienced amateur I would name and shame him all over every website and club and event because people like that need to be exposed for the scum they are.:deal
I think its really about how honest the trainers are with eachother about their fighters experience, I have found it to be pretty open and honest, but youre right, if someone lies about 25 pro fights they had a knocks out a complete novice then they are a coward.
Its white collar i.e. its meant to be for professional people. Its not a place for ex amateurs to come and smash up accountants. Nor is it place for hard nut east-end types to come and smash up bankers. Unlicensed boxing is for people that just want a tear up.
Not at all. Former amateurs who boxed in the ams for 5+ years, now 30yrs old, why should they enter pro's when its too late or even go back to the amateurs? White collar is a good choice and like amateur boxing, you dont match someone with 100 fights against someone with 1 fight. I believe when you fill out the form you fill out your experience, whether amateur or pro and its up to the trainers to match even fights.
