I hate to sound like this because Broner was picked by 95% of people and if I had a gun to my head the idea of a potential robbery combined with consensus opinion might have swayed me, but Maidana beating Broner should have been the popular prediction. It was quite easy to predict, stylistically speaking. Obviously it goes to show that people, even those who spoke nothing but evil of Broner, either respect his skills more than they say or they really think little of Maidana (which would prove ones' faultiness in judging quality of a fighter).
I still don't think that much of Maidana, I can't see him beating anymore of the top 10 or so welterweights, (I'd maybe give him a chance against Porter if he bum rushed someone with power and got caught, possibly Thurman too, but I wouldn't outright pick Maidana to beat either). The three Jr Welterweight standouts, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov all would handle Maidana with less trouble than they would have with each other. Heck, come to think of it, I wouldn't rule out Brandon Rios to beat Maidana due to his excellent chin. Plus the odds would heavily favor Maidana looking at there previous fights, but they wouldn't take into account just how much differnce there is in the talents levels of their previous opponents (and there is OCEANS between Pacquiao and Broner).
Let's be honest. It's like arguing Victor Ortiz was the man after beating Andre Berto- people ignored the fact that Maidana, like Ortiz had been exposed multiple times already. And Berto, like Broner hadn't fought anyone decent and beat them decisively.
Broner is better than that performance. He fought a horrible fight tactically. It's not easy to come back from almost being KO'd in the 2nd. He'll come again.
