Anyone else delighted that Mayweather vs Pac talk is over

This is pure speculation. There was nothing to suggest that Cotto was struggling at 147lbs. The fact that his next fight was at 154lbs proves nothing. Pac fought Diaz at 135lbs then moved up to 147 to fight DLH. Does that mean he was struggling to make 135? Boxers move up all the time if they feel they need to look for new opponents. It's not always a case of them struggling to make weight. Like I said, he weight 146lbs for the previous fight. It's possible the 2 extra pounds made some difference, but the point you made that Cotto was 2 weights below his comfort zone is a crock of shite.

 

Loads of fights that the fans want to see don't get made. It wasn't that long ago that everybody wanted to see Gamboa V's Juanma but Arum told the fans to go **** themselves and Juanma got his head bent by Salido. Only winner in that case was Salido.

Mayweather "retired" rather than face Margarito or Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya wouldn't fight Winky, Jones V's Hopkins was a shitty 60/40 negotiation until nobody gave a **** and Pavlik V's Abraham was a massive fight for a short time that should have happened. Only thing separating Mayweather and Pacs circus was how long it went and how unbelievably huge it would have been when it mattered. When they both **** off boxings main concern will be boxing again.

 

People stopped talking about this fight a while ago.

 

I'm sad it never happened when it would've meant the most, but that ship has firmly sailed now.

 

It doesn't really matter now, but i've always thought that Pacquiao would've been a nightmare for Floyd.

Most people don't really know the meaning of styles making fights. They think common opponents do. Mayweather realises that and tries to get the better of Manny that way. Floyd must be the happiest man in the world now that Pacquiao has been KO'd. Why else would he have kept risking the pay day by letting Manny fight other people. Now he can tell everybody that he was always better than Pacquiao anyway. And claim the victory because he beat Marquez.

Mayweather is just jealous of Pacquiao, simple as that. Being envious is a natural but flawed emotion. Showing jealousy is entirely different and it’s much worse. That has to be the thing that bothers Mayweather fans the most. The whole promotion of the Mayweather/Cotto fight was basically all about Pacquiao.

In his heart Mayweather couldn't bear that Pacquiao was such a big star and taking the limelight away from him. I think he got to the situation where he realised a defeat to Pacquiao would be so much worse then how good a win over him would feel.

Floyd was clearly at fault for this fight never happening. If not Floyd who do we blame for his actions? He’s a man in his 30’s. To make some of the comments he has made about Manny are just off the wall. The racial rants, the money talk, the PED accusations etc.

Some of the excuses that Floyd’s fans have made over the years were absolutely ridiculous. Some said after Floyd retired again after the Mosley fight, that Floyd would fight Manny the following year because he didn’t want to pay taxes twice in one calendar. That year came and went. Some said Floyd was letting the fight build. What! Since when does it take 3 years to build a fight between two guys who are number 1 and 2 in the world, in their 30’s and are already PPV stars.

Floyd is really a marketing genius. He has become a crossover star with the same style that other fighters were just a legend with. He has put 50 Cents next to him. 50 wrote a book called the 50 Laws of Power if I’m not mistaken. If you listen to 50 talk he talks about being relevant. Floyd knows he’s the most relevant fighter along with Pacquiao and that’s good enough for him. He also knows that Pacquiao would slow down quicker then he would.

He is a great fighter, no doubt, but he’s also going to go down as the fighter who didn’t make the biggest fight.

 

Now I am but this fight should have happened a few years ago. Everyone would have benefitied from the money, hype and fight. It would have been epic.

 

The ******* moniker has been around long before Floyd/Pac was ever mentioned.

***** is relatively new though, and despite being pretty childish it's a pretty accurate description of a significant % of Floyd fans.

They'll buy anything he says, make up any excuse, it's as if they're blind.

Pac fans, I'll let some of them off because English clearly isn't their first language, a bit like iron_chin and Darni.

It's a damn shame the fight never happened but I'd given up on it a couple of years back.

Mayweather is undoubtedly a very good fighter but one I'll never be able to genuinely label 'great' because of his avoidance tactics outside the ring.

Seems to me a lot of his fans use the excuses he makes as gospel and hold his unbeaten record as proof he is/was untouchable.

 

And when Pac moved up to fight dela hoya he was a facing someone who was weight drained again. Oscar looked out of sorts all the way through that fight and needed oxygen and an IV at the end of it. There was already talk of Cotto going to 154 at that time therefore he wasnt fully comfortable at 147 anymore (just looking at him for the weigh ins is plenty evidence that he was draining himself) so his comfort zone imo was 154 and pac wanted the fight at 144 hence the 2 weights reference I made (ok a weight and a half if you wanna split hairs)

 

I never said natural I said comfortable. Cotto was not quite making 147 as comfortably as he once did and rather than struggling at the weight and letting it weaken him he moved up. Arum and team Pac knew this and thats why they asked for the fight at 144 and they obviously made him alot of cash coz he said yes. Couldnt disagree more with your point of calling Cotto lazy, he's been one of the best fighters of this generation and has taken on all comers.

 

Oscar was the cherrypicker in the DLH/Pac fight.

 

I lost all interest in that fight after Marquez 3

It was huge when they were both at their peaks but now pacman has to losses and and controversial win.

Bob arum dragging it out too long before the fight loses it spark because one of them lost.

Juanma v Gamboa

Pavlik v Abraham

Pacman v Mayweather

All involved bob arum. He dragged them out to make more money and because of that, us fans missed out on 3 fights that would have been great if they had been fought at the right times.

 

I'm still interested in that fight but now I feel that Pacman will have to get a couple of comeback wins before he fights Mayweather.. which means both will be too old... so not really sure waht to make of this fight now..
