i thought he was a guy who fought every second of everyround i was a little disappointed that he started to backpeddle in the last few rounds. i hope there was a legit excuse. it pissed me off that he said he knew he was winning so wanted to protect his lead.
i thought it was great to watch him fight mosley on the backfoot and still win rounds ! Completely edged Mosley in every category, style this weekend ! Mosley was aggresive but he wasn't doing anything ! Watch it again ! Also Cotto only used excessive movement although still outlanding Mosley in the final minute of the 12th round this crap about him running for 4 rounds is crazy
"Bottom line is it was a great fight. Cotto did what he had to do to win "convincingly" against one of the best fighters in the world. Cotto is now one of the absolute best.
i'm not at all dissapointed. even the greatest brawlers have to move away sometimes. look at mab, he was a pure brawler before but after the losses to junior jones, he reinvented himslef and became a better fighter. cotto fought an intelligent fight and he did not totally abandon what his fans came to like about him. so i am not dissapointed at all
After all, Mosley was the best opposition Cotto has faced thus far. Perhaps that had something to do with it.
DAMN Bro . . . you're unbelievable. :-( There's no need to make an excuse for that . . . the corner tells fighters what to do . . . to win fights. If that's for his survival . . . considering he is facing a former multi divisional belt holder . . . so be it. That's a lame antagonism.
Not really - I mean I would have liked to see him apply his constant pressure for the entire fight, but he fought smart and took the least amount of punishment possible in the later rounds. Cotto doesn't fight well off of the backfoot so he decided to move and dance away, finding opportunities to counterpunch and throw combinations. In time, he will probably be able to fight better off of the backfoot and not have to "run" and pick his spots when he decides not to come forward and pressure. Ideally, he would combine inside fighting and outside fighting like Marco Antonio Barrera - although I'm not sure he has the natural coordination of Barrera to do so. He was moving away because Mosley was slugging and was also very strong - Cotto couldn't impose himself on Mosley.
From what I heard in Cotto's coner (they where speaking in spanish of course) Cotto swalloed a good amount of blood from a cut in his mouth, Cotto got on his bike a bit early but still managed to look impressive with his jabs and sharp counters....Cotto's a boxer!!!! LOL
The point of these fights is to win, that's what he did. You don't have to win every fight by taking unneccesary punishment.
I thought Miguel remained competitive and won some of the rounds even when Shane came forward. The only exception was the 12th, which he basically gave away. I continue to view Cotto as a PfP fighter, although I also believe prime Mosley takes him out.
