It was a bit sickening, I've never seen him hurt like that, it was the timing of the shots more than anything The positive is that I wouldn't say he took a beating, Mayweather was potshotting during the early stages, and only started to put combinations together towards the end So he'll be back
Totally gutted coz he's such a great boxer and bloke, however I had money on a pbf ko 7-12 so mixed emotions. Believe me though I'd swap my win for a Ricky win in a heartbeat. Sizzle your comments seem a bit OTT, did you audition for the 'forum f*ckwit' or earn it through hatton style persistance.
I say this over and over, Floyd does what he have to do to promote his fight. I don't agree how he acts sometimes, but he does what he have to do. Floyd is very respectful towards every fighter after he fights. It's never personal, just business, some people on here don't get that. But on the other hand, I was glad to see Hatton get TKO'ed :yep just glad he wasn't badly hurt afterwards :good
I wanted Mayweather to win from the start but I felt bad for Hatton.. He was a bit cocky at the weigh in though.. which has never been proved a clever thing to do against Mayweather..
Sad is understatement. I am depressed. I really like Hatton and after the fight he got more respect from me - he forced PBF to fight the fight we fans would like to see.
Not really a Hatton fan but yes I feel sad for Ricky, he is an extra ordinary fighter and not that easy to grasp he lost that way. :verysad But he did put up a very a tough fight for Mayweather, I still like this fighter. I know Hatton will be back.
It was sad to see him get sparked out but he went out on his shield at least and he got beat by a great fighter
Yes, I feel the same. After the football result yesterday evening, this is shaping up to be the sporting weekend from hell. Only Arsenal losing could give a tiny crumb of comfort.... But back to your post, that is the key, and what will be respected in years to come....He FORCED the defensive, reticent Mayweather to fight and put in his best performance in five years....Bringing that out of the P4P #1 is no easy task. So, after the sadness of the KO dissipates and Mayweather's place as one of the greatest of all time is univerally agreed upon, I think that is what will be taken from Ricky's performance. He enhanced Mayweather's greatest and earned himself a place in the history books by making the best on the planet bring to the fore a side we didn't think he had anymore.
It would have been a lot worse if he had managed to last the 12. He would have been sliced and diced and looked a bloody mess.
Firstly, I think this is my first post on the forums - even though I've lurked around for quite a while over the past month or so. Hello to everyone, and a great place you have here. Just as a pre-cursor, my neck of the woods had a powercut last night from just after midnight until some time this morning, so I had to listen to the fight via my mobile while a friend commentated on the fight for me. Not the ideal way to enjoy the biggest fight of the year, but probably the most err... interesting. Before I start, I'm a Hatton fan for the record. Hatton: I don't feel sorry for him - he got a shot at the P4P #1 and gave it his all. I don't think it's fair that people _hate_ Hatton for getting beaten, or for the way he engaged the public in the lead-up to the fight, as he definately did his bit in making this fight a huge international affair. Being honest, this is something that the US sometimes has difficulty doing at times as US-centric fights can be marketed in an insular fashion at times. PBF: Full respect to Floyd for what he did - he proved to me that behind the hype he is one of the greatest boxers of our generation. Every time Floyd clipped Hatton, all I would hear was a "Uuufffffffff" noise as my friend expelled air... as the rounds passed, he eventually spend most of his time making that noise. Yes, I'm a little disappointed at the way the ref handled the fight, and I'm not a big fan of some of the noises made my the UK fight fans on the night - although people need to realise that it's quite commonplace for fans of opposing nations to boo the national anthem of the other country (of which the UK can be quite bad - although certainly not the worst). BUT, Floyd won fair-and-square and for that I have no complaints whatsoever. The Future: Partly, I'm sad that Hatton didn't win because of the possible future fights that may have come out of a Hatton-win. But I don't think it's all down-side. While the champion may ride off into the sunset safe in the knowledge that his name will be remembered for many years to come, everyone below him will now start lining themselves up for the time that he does eventually reach the horizon. It'll probably be a year or two before someone does become Floyd's pretender (or maybe equal), but alot of fighters right now will realise that now is the time to start making a push - we'll begin to see alot of fights being made for the right reasons. That can only be a good sign. As for where Ricky goes now? I don't really know. He's undoubtedly one of the most loved boxers in the world right now. His charm, wit and comedy timing (and I don't mean during last night's fight) have secured him as a real ambassador to boxing. Ok, he may have swore, but let's face it, we're not dealing with ice-dancing or curling here. I'm also a little worried that he may get sucked down into fights that he doesn't really need to fight and what legacy he does have may be ruined by a few ill-chosen fights. Although I'm sure he'll take stock and come to a sensible decision after xmas. Just to wrap up, thanks for trying so hard Ricky, congratulations Floyd - you really are _that_ good, thanks to them both for being so gracious after the fight, and congrats to all the fans for making this one hellofa fight to end the year with. Roll on '08. (P.S. My 4th post? Now I'm worried I may have said "hello" to you all 3-times prior - oh crap).
