Anyone else hate the weakness of the Commonwealth belt.

An annoying habit is to basically give away a title, by putting in a no hoper from Ghana just to give them a strap. It would be much more highly regarded if we saw some fighters from Australia and Canada to take away (dare I say it 'Anglo-Dominance' by cowardly promoters.

Tony Bellew (who I rate massively) is up against a 5'6 tubby Ghanaian who has done nothing to warrant a title shot, they could have had Wane Braithwaite or Troy Ross and a multitude of Australians which are a better class than this guy.

The last match I remember where the foreign fighter 'won' was Molitor vs. Hunter (Dilks vs. Adamu was a sham).

These African fighters are a bit of a mystery, whenever a fight is made between them we usually hear "we don't know much about him".

As you say we could have our guys fighting Canadians, Australians etc. In fact there are plenty of other countries in Asia that could also be fighting for it.

Just imagine the likes of diaconu/bute/pascal/lucas/green/mundine against Calzaghe/froch/Magee/ before achieving worldwide stardom.

    Really? :huh

In general, if it's not a world title belt, isn't it just a trinket anyway?

It used to be worth a lot more than it is today but I think it still has value for African fighters as a way to get noticed without having to move abroad.

Commonwealth belt should be considered just another regional belt. I don't know.. like the southern illinois boxing belt. :D

Well in a day when there were less belts and less divisions just being a national champ was truly an honour and you were often the best in your country if you held, which is almost never the case today with the dozens of regionals floating around...To be the champion of the whole British Empire was some achievement IMO on par with holding a trinket today.

A title is only as valuable as the person who holds it.
WBC = owes nothing but thanks to Ali.

Yeah these days the fighter makes the belt what it is, for the one fight they hold it for anyway. As mentioned, the Commonwealth was a legit respected stepping stone but these days all the belts are except 'the ring' belt.
