Possibly my favorite fighter in boxing today. Some people think he's mentally weak. You know what? How many champions have suffered 3 heartbreaking losses only to be told after the 3rd loss by his older brother(whom he idolized growing up) "quit boxing, you are through". Instead of laying down and quitting, Wladimir showed he had balls by telling Vitali to "go **** yourself" and kicked him out of his camp. Wlad was alone in 2004, no one believed he could do it. Wladimir could have layed down in 2004, instead he realized he still had room to grow and could become a great champion. He released all that negativity in his life, and replaced it with an all time great trainer in Manny Steward(who did believe in him)... In 2005 was gut check time, as Wladimir fought a in shape, young, motivated sam peter...who was in peak form that night. Wladimir had still not yet reached his peak with manny steward yet, but he proved he had an incredible amount of heart in that fight by gutting it out. By 2008, Wlad had finally perfected the craft Manny taught him, and the rest is history. He is now one of the most talented heavyweight fighters of all time, has one of the toughest styles to beat in history. He has cleaned out an entire division for the last 6 years and will continue to do so over the next 3-4 years before retiring as a top 10 heavyweight of all time.

How many champions in modern boxing can say they looked adversity straight in the eyes and punched it right in the mouth? Wladimir showed he had the mental toughness of a true champion by bouncing back in one of the greatest comeback stories in boxing history.

    I am.

I still dislike Vitali for telling him to quit. Good that Wladimir had stronger will than that. True champion and great sportsman.

I'm a huge fan of Wlad. Besides being a great ambassador for the sport, any fighter that can resurrect themselves after everyone says they're through gets my respect. I give more props to a guy who can pick themselves up and fight through that adversity than the fighters who can't recover from a single loss (damaging wars notwithstanding)

Never found him that boring and I'll always root for the guy till he retires.

    Yes, big Wlad fan.

Guy is a very good fighter, has come back from the bottom of defeat to claim the throne of the best heavyweight of this era (imo), and is one of the best sports role models that a child could have.

    Wlad is class :good

His style bores meet to death, but he's a dedicated professional and class act. Great representative of the sport.

Always been a great fan of Wlad. Such a great technical boxer with a great power left jab delivered with speed and accuracy. Tremendous left hooks off the left jab and very powerful right hand. He's unusual in that he is such a great boxer but also possesses two-fisted power so is very difficult to beat. Most opponents get that beaten, confused, hang-dog look by the middle rounds. If they try to box with Wlad they get outboxed; if they try to punch with him they get hurt. A great champion and ambassador for the sport.
