Out of the group of fighters you mentioned Kessler is the biggest threat to Pavlik. One thing people tend to miss when they watch KP is how good he is at capatilizing on the other guys mistakes. Zuniga; not big enough or strong enough to stand and trade with Pav. McKart; kept his left to high with his elbow out away from his rib cage. Miranda; can't fight going backwards. Taylor; kept his left to low and went straight back to the ropes in the first fight; in the second he ran out of steam in the late rounds. I can't think of any mistakes Kessler consistently makes that Pav could capatilize on. To me, the big question about Kessler is his heart. Calzaghe beat him because, much to his credit, Joe was willing to leave absolutley everything in the ring. Kessler did not seem to have that willingness. He came on strong at the end, but it was to little, to late.
I think it would be a great fight. The winner would be in a very strong position after Calzaghe retires.
I agree that it's quite possible (perhaps even likely) that this matchup becomes a little more of a chess match than most would expect. However, I definitely would not rule out a slugfest. Both fighters seem to be extremely willful and if one or the other feels they are losing by any significant margin, they're gonna turn up the heat BIGTIME and I expect the other to respond in kind. Neither seem to be track-star type boxers. I would really like to see this fight, but my question is this: If Kessler is reluctant (however silly it seems) to fight Miranda, what is the likelihood of him stepping up against Kelly? Especially considering the whoopin' Pavlik put on Miranda. p.s. my first post so : Hello board! Nicetomeetcha'. :!:
Yes, I'm very interested, but Pavlik should fight Hopkins, Abraham, Calzaghe first in that order, then fight Kessler is he's still undefeated.
I'd rather see Pavlik fight Dawson, should Chad get by Tarver. It is more of a clash of styles: power vs skill. Then we'll have a new top 5 P4P fighter crowned.
Pavlik/Hopkins: October 18th Pavlik/Abraham: all parties agree in principle. Everyone involved wants the fight for January 09. Pavlik/Calzaghe: Won't happen. Hermit's squirrel stole Slappy's balls.
