    I'm talking...

Tyson/Douglas - two American heavies - in Tokyo.
    Rumble in the Jungle

    Fights of that nature.

What on earth are you on about with Dubai?

I miss the days when third world dictators could rob their countries blind and squander the money on a Muhammad Ali fight.

Or when white supremacist regimes in Africa could import a black American to beat up their local boy in front of 80,000 mustachioed whites.

Seriously, I quite liked it when fights were staged in south of France, in Monaco and in Italy.

I miss the days when big fights happened on weeknights. You had something to look forward to after work & could talk about it with coworkers the next day.

(Actually, I miss the days when coworkers would talk about boxing at all...)

Monzon was on that circuit for awhile. I think Galidez vs Eddie Mustafa M. was over there too.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Hagler-Leonard and Tyson-Spinks were Monday night events.
In the UK we didn't get to see Hagler-Leonard until the following night, and I remember staying up all night to catch Tyson-Spinks in the early hours. I had school the next day.

I pine for the 70's when the greats appeared on Saturday/Sunday afternoons on free tv, 15 round title bouts (I became addicted to those delicious, dark chocolate-like tactical, chess game type 15 rounders) weekend night triple headers with the dulcet(?) monotone voice of Howard Cosell intoning the background sound track. I was ruined by the late 60's...the entire 70's....
I also remember listening to Ali-Liston ll on the radio that night...the pleasure didn't last too long, as Don Dunphy (or was it Bob Sheridan?) saying in about a minute "Liston is on his knees".....I enjoyed the televised fights of the 80's too. These eras are long over, and believe me, they were the "great old days"....which is why I'm a proud denizen of this Classical forum, and only lukewarm about today's scene.
    Those were truly magic times.

I could be wrong Skins but I think it was a Tuesday.

You're right Skins, I thought we 'jawed' back and forth both Monday and Tuesday before their s c r a p. :nut
