Hi Red! The 'chief' has me in the 'ol "get those lime stains out of the toilet" mode today. :-(
The Gillette Friday niters, WWS Saturday afternoon (we never knew who was going to fight that afternoon but my buds and I knew we would know as soon as we read the sports section/TV Guide.)
Only one champ, only ten 'top 10' contenders.
My Saturdays circa 64-69 (if I wasn't out playing sports-or trying to get a kiss from Vicky Baxter ) were:
'Heckle & Jeckal' early morning, then the Three Stooges, then the great breakfast from Mom; followed by a couple of hours on the block seeing what was going on with all the 'buds', then a great Mom lunch followed by some Sinbad/Sci-Fi movie with the Great Ray Harryhausen special effects then...WWS! Who's it going to be today? Griffith, Tiger, Ali, Nino, a great fight among two top contenders!?
    Magic times indeed!
I tend to live in the past; this thread makes me want to cry.

i do but u cant blame fighters or promoters for wanting to make as much money as possible. Tyson had some big fights in Tokyo, and towards the end of his career had that Euro tour...he's tbe last big name American i can think of that fought on the road...of coyrse most of those dights were against fellow Americans

You lived the life back then jowcol:happy...and I did too, mostly by myself 'cause there were no boxing fans anywhere around me when I was in that lovely era...and it really didn't matter, so glued to the screen and rapt was my attention. In the '90's, I used to attend big gatherings for HBO & Showtime fights....mostly ppl who I worked with, and there were more than enough casuals in that crowd that it was annoying, and one dude's wife who's only focus was on Evander Holyfield's body...his mus-kels, as Popeye would say. I was in my own universe in the 60's and 70's.
Makes me wanna cry too bud!!
