JOHNNY NELSON wants to come out of retirement to fight British boxing's newest superstar David Haye. The 41-year-old is determined to challenge the WBO, WBC and WBA cruiserweight champ.
And Sheffield's former world title-holder said: "I just know that I can beat David.
"And I believe the clash would capture the imagination of the British public — the guy who was unbeaten as champion for six years against the world cruiserweight king.
    Prospect

"Somebody has only to say the word and I would be there.
"I became so excited by the prospect last weekend that I couldn't sleep when I got home from London after watching David's brilliant performance in stopping Enzo Maccarinelli.
"I rang and asked my trainer Dominic Ingle: ‘Am I mad? I want to fight Haye after two years out of the ring and I'm convinced I have the style and experience to win'. He didn't try to dampen my enthusiasm.
"Don't get the wrong idea. David was fantastic. He has become a mate and I was enormously impressed with everything about his display. He oozed control and utter self-belief whereas Enzo had a severe reality check on the ring walk.
"I've always insisted that I wouldn't come out of retirement but this has touched a nerve in me."

I can picture it just now, Haye telling Booth "**** Rahman, pull out all the stops to get me a fight with Nelson":patsch

Nelson wasn't even the number 1 Crusier in the world in his prime.

He was crticised for a number of joke opponents that he faced in his career.

After his borefest against Carlos De Leon most people were turned off Nelson. It must rank as one of the most boring fights of all time.

Nelson should enjoy retirement and stick to the stationary business.

Johnee Nelson... I remember the german ring announcer saying that name a while back when 'our' johnny fought in Germany, but this story is going nowhere.

So let me say this. Johnny bottled a fight with big Enzo & everyone knew it, now cos Haye blew Enzo away Johnny is talking the talk again, cos hes embarrased about ducking Enzo now.
So he really expects us to lap up this bull**** hes spewing.

As if we are going to forget johnny Nelson retiring instead of fighting big Enzo.

Come on Dunky, Nelson did have some serious injuries then (confirmed by his sparring partner).

Why not put him in with Enzo ? Should settle things for once.

Dont worry kurt, Nelson enjoys every minute of his retirement. part of his fun is telling everyone he wants to fight haye, just like he was going to fight Enzo before he bottled it & retired instead, only after being a complete knob to Enzo Mac live on TV beforehand.

Jeez, remember his story about meeting Tyson in a lift & how he shat his pants cos he had been bad mouthing Tyson beforehand? sums the guy up. All mouth & trousers. nothing else.

If Nelson was so ****ed up with injuries, why did he slaughter Enzo on tv saying he was going to destroy him if he knew he wasnt fit enough to fight?
    Johnny Nelson, dont trust him.

hmm, I think you are onto something there my good man!

Jim watt, must be the only guy who gets paid to moan the ****in ears off the general public, the guy seems to forget hes supposed to be enjoying himself when hes commentating, all he does is whinge, whinge whinge with that whining voice of his, & hes sickeningly biased too now. Him & Adam Smith are the partnership from hell, one is a middle class suit who steals Ian Darkes lines to make himself sound as if he knows what hes talking about, & Watt is a grumpy old man who sounds like hes got out of the wrong side off the bed. Every Friday.

ive got to say that the nelson - de leon match up isnt boring becuase it wasnt boxing at all. just 2 200 pound guys running round a ring.

    absolutly nothing in it.

there was a highlight video of al the punches that were landed...it lasted 10 seconds

    Nelson would lose.

How about Nelson comes out of retirement and grants Enzo his fight. I think he would lose that and all.

Nelson is a great chap and one of the nicest guys I've met that have come from the sport. Yep he's talking **** but just about every boxer past and present does the same.

The way Jim Watt talks you half expect him to jump from his commentators seat into the ring and start knocking every out. I like his dead pan commentry, at least he is not sucking every ones balls all the time.

You seem to casually have forgotten the rest of his career since. Considering Nelsons background and why he took up boxing id say he done fantastically well for himself. Despite his conservative and sometimes negative style he has been in some good scraps. Only problem is his moniker was never apt.

Yep. I think Nelson must have pissed of a jock at some point in his life so now Dunky is gonna carry out a vendetta on behalf of the Scottish nation.

I think I heard Jonny diss short bread once.
