So you reckon Green retired and turned his back on a potential $8-$10 million just so No Idea can pay him $100K for his life story

Hmmm lets think about this a little harder rather than just dismissing it so bluntly.... :thumbsup

Theres no 8-10mill pay day with Garay. The only time a pay day would come close to that is a fight with Mundine (and TBH I dont think Mundine/Green II would generate anywhere near as much interest as the first fight). However a loss to Garay would mean no fight with Mundine which means no big payday (Now ive got a sneaking suspicion he's not all to confident about beating Garay), and likely no major big fights following this loss. That would likely cause him to retire anyways but he doesnt retire on top in that case and there would be less interest in him also.

A media deal could result in more than 100K and a likely autobiography would also follow meaning revenue in book sales. This autobiography would sell a whole lot better if he retired on top and had insights as to why he retired so suddenly.

    :hi:

Yeah in my opinion if he all of a sudden did not feel the hunger and desire to fight, i think he has made the right choice, especially before his fight. As if he went in there not wanting it anymore the fight could have been disastrous for him. Going in there against a hungry opponent, while not wanting to do this anymore himself. Although it sucks big time for Garay, esp all his training for this, but i suppose if they fought and he won, then this comes out it would look bad as well, as you want to beat someone knowing they were 100%, not hear crap that they were not, although i am not saying who would have won.
If you do not want to do something anymore and you put that in your mind you will not do well at it then, so good choice for Green, although we all would have liked to see him fight.

    That's ******ed.

Revenue from book sales in Australia is limited especially in such a niche market as boxers autobiographies.

The notion that Green has had a look at a couple of Garay's fights on video and gone 'I can't beat that guy, I'd better retire' is ****ing demented. Greeny struggles with slick counterpunchers no doubt, but a come forward fighter like Garay plays to Green's strengths. I'm sorry but elite athletes that have reached a level of achievement such as Danny Green don't shy away from challenges in the manner that you're suggesting.

Having said that I agree that it is a very strange time to retire given that he had finally got himself into a position where he could have one or two big fights. But when you see the documetary 'the fightgame' the guy seems like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, so maybe he got sick of the pressure.

Angelo Hyder said that Green told him last Saturday that he'd knock Garay out in 5.
But your 'sneaking suspicion' is probably more valued than a close personal friend and trainer of Greens. :-(

Green also has spoken in the past about a deal that he had with his Dad that he'd retire as world champ.
I guess like any athlete they just know when it's time.
I don't feel sorry for Garay like some other bleeding hearts, he'll get his chance again. Boxing is all about hard luck stories, fights get cancelled all of the time for one reason or another, it goes with the territory unfortunately, Garay would be wise enough to understand that as well.

"Poor Garay!!! Left At The Altar By Green!!!"

"Hugo Devastated - "You're Not The Father" Says Danny"
