As much as I dislike watching Andre Ward's boring and rough style I have nothing but respect and even admiration over his career. Won gold, won a tournament, fought almost everyone including some feared fighters, has the boxing brains to adjust to any fighters no matter how ugly it is to watch, and has that will to win. He isn't the hardest puncher or fastest guy or even the best defender, but somehow he still finds ways to win. That is something that I fully respect about Ward. I have no interest in going back to watch some of his fights but I do appreciate what he has done for the sport. No matter how much people hate him or his fighting style there's no doubt that he's a legit Hall of Famer and ATG. Who else feels the same way about Ward?
Why do people always say they do not want to rewatch his fights? Kovalev I, Kovalev II, Froch, Kessler, Dawson... all gave boxing fans entertainment for various reasons.
It's just a matter of personal taste. I'll give you Froch and Dawson and I thought his fight with Arthur Abraham was somewhat interesting. Some of his earlier fights where he fought more clean are watchable. But I'm not in a rush to rewatch some of his fights. That's just me.
His resume deserves respect as does his status but I've no intention of rewatching his fights. Respect for how he just shutdown feared punchers though and when it came to it nobody had any answers did they?
Sure he did good, but honestly he never gave a memorable fight his whole career. To me based on accomplishments and what his record shows then he HAS to be recognised. But an ATG? Really.. how low the bar is falling. Those same records won't record the nature of how he won those fights or decisions. His record should 100% show a loss for the Kessler fight on disqualification. That however won't be forgotten so easily by people who witnessed it.
I agree that they maybe aren't crazy entertaining and sure there are near countless more "watchable" from a casual perspective but the Kovalev rivalry, Kessler and Froch dismantling, and the Dawson beatdown should never be pointed to in an effort to support the claim "Ward is boring" or "none of Wards fights were good."
