I thought he got jobbed a little. Maybe not jobbed actually but certainly thought he did enough to win. Gassiev really struggled with his movement and fair play to Leb - that dude is tough as Hell. That said, Gassiev is only 23 still and will grow from this. How did you guys have it? Either way, CW is hot as **** right now. Struggle to put a bad fight together in that division.
116-111 was my score, although 117-110 or 115-112 were fine, no way should Lebedev got the nod, and I like Lebedev way more than Gassiev.
No. I was rooting for Lebby but he got beat fair and square. He certainly had his moments in the fight, where he outboxed the younger Russian, but not nearly enough. I think it's pretty comparable to another fight a weightclass below, in which you could score it for the guy that was dropped and wasn't effective with his power if you go out of your way to score every closer round in his favor, but in this case the right guy (Gassiev) got the nod. Happy that we didn't get another controversial winner in this one.
I had Gassiev 115-112. You can see my scoring on the round by round thread, I really think Gassiev did win a very close one. Good fight though.
For those interested, Compubox numbers are out showing Gassiev with a very slight edge in total punches landed (152/637 vs 146/618) and a significant edge in power punches landed (108/300 vs 85/260).
I was watching it without scoring round by round and when it came to the scorecards, I wouldn't have been surprised if Lebedev got the nod. I was surprised to see the guys in this forum giving it fairly one sided to Gassiev. His jab was constantly finding its range, which is odd considering the height disadvantage an he was moving and turning Gassiev well, while Gassiev seemed hesistant to get his punches off at times. Worked out well for me as I had money on Gassiev at 5/4, but yeah, thought the scorecards were wide.
I had it 114-113 for lebedev but I could see either man winnning, I just think lebedev would throw a flurry here and there and steal rounds especially later in the fight. He looked in trouble whenever Gassiev caught him with a big shot though.
I also had Gassiev winning, though by a small margin. Still he did just enough to win, so no controversy for me.
6-6 with the KD the decider so i'd have had no problem with a Lebedev win. Lebedev was just taking rounds on heart. What did you guys think of Gassiev's punch resistance? Apart from that one straight right, he just seemed literally unaffected by Lebedev's shots. I agree that there are some good fights in the division but there is quite a lot of damaged goods too. Quite a lot of damaged fighters.
He showed solid whiskers. Lebedev hits pretty hard, though he was backed up a few times by some of the cleaner hooks. What would concern me is a 37 year old Lebedev being able to outmaneuver him too often
