Does seem like he's banging on a door that he knows won't open. But Wilder said recently the meeting they are attending next week to discuss the Joshua fight isn't for 2019 but 2020 or later, so I guess Hearn deep down knows it won't happen soon but wants to keep the pressure on team Wilder, it only benefits Joshua profile in the US if he keeps chasing the Wilder fight. Much like how Wilder grew his profile last year calling out Joshua, Joshua is now in the US trying to grow his profile their by chasing Wilder.
We were a party of five when the news hit. Jeremy was the first to find out and he immediately went into spasms. As he foamed at the mouth I called out for help whilst Jemima and Ramone administered first aid. Just as the patient was being restored to something resembling stability he managed to gasp out the words 'Wilder is fighting Ortiz again' and that's when things took a decided turn for the worse. It's been a couple of days now and there's still no sign of Jemima, although there are reports of a naked woman living in a park in Saffron Walden and assaulting the park wardens that appears to match her description. Jeremy has been accepted into the French Foreign Legion, Ramone has requested gender reassignment surgery and I killed Lillibeth and am wearing her skin. On the whole I think we took the news rather well, all things considered.
Wilder has made a cost benefit analysis, that its better to milk the cow a bit more before facing AJ and definitely getting sparked out. He wants 2 more fights to earn more money for himself and his crew of hangers on. Who knows though, whether after those two defences, he will have grown the cajones to face AJ. AJ turns his lights out. He knows it. AJ knows it. We know it.
I don't remember seeing much clamour for a rematch but then again I've always thought whilst a solid operator Ortiz got hugely overrated for that win over the mediocre Jennings and an old Tyson Fury interview in which he claimed everyone was ducking him. Anyway the fact that Team Wilder have their own plan and have no shame in carrying it out despite the wishes and opposition of the fans shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
I think anybody claiming to have been shocked by this kind of defense at this stage of Wilder's reign is being tongue-in-cheek.
With the big 3 not facing each other this is not the worst fight that can be made. Ortiz without Peds at his advanced age has little chance to even improve on his first fight where he gassed out. It's another win for Wilder probably in spectacular fashion which is what his handlers want. I would rather see him face Povetkin who is in need of an opponent or try someone like Parker or Pulev.
Surely theres more money in fighting AJ/Fury twice or three times, rather than a sloppy backwards fights like Ortiz??? This proves the confidence PBC actually has in Wilder, they are marinating for the one big one becasue they know when it hits, it's likely to go very wrong for them.
I honestly felt like Wilder was stepping up after Breazeale I thought that was excellent for Wilder and he would be keeping his options open . Ortiz or Kownacki was clearly going to happen and now I think Kownacki would be next for Wilder after Ortiz 2 . But to announce it already ?? , I mean the first fight was good , but it was not controversial in a way that demands a rematch . I think Wilder exposed Ortiz in the first fight and showed Ortiz is not the bogeyman of the division .
If somehow Ortiz beats Wilder and then declines a rematch and retires. We'll have a vacant belt Then maybe WBC order a bout for the belt like Wilder vs Wilder
I'm shocked as in why the **** would Ortiz (or his team?) would decline Joshua's cash-out offer and take this fight? How much Ortiz is going to get out of this one? 1m at best? Joshua would probably give him five times of that. And seeing how he is a family man and a father, he needed that. I'm shocked how stupid of a decision it was.
Because they didn't have a choice? This fight was likely signed some time before Miller tested positive.
