Anyone else think Barker can win this?

    Barker will win this,
he will raise his game an extra 20% and pull off a close descision. Pavlik was not near his best in the Martinez fight and still made it close, Barker is better than a pisssed up Pavlik.
I thought Dzinziruk was pathetic in that fight and only offered a straight 1 2 as offence and had much less variety than our Darren, plus was only a light mid.

Barker loves a southpaw and Martinez is nothing more than a clever veteran who was underated for years only to get the perfect fights at the right time for him to get elevated to p4p status. Dont get me wrong Martinez is class and a true elite level operator but not some Floyd or Paq level guy imo, those 2 are head and shoulders above the rest.

Lets not forget Kermit Cintron got a draw off Martinez a couple of years back, I would fancy Barker to beat the pants off Cintron if the fight was made at middleweight.

Lets not forget Martinez was robbed twice in one night, once of a knockout and again of a decision win:D

I remember giving Cintron something like two or three rounds against Martinez at the most.

This pretty much sums up how ignorant you are. Cintron actually got knocked out after being dominated for the fight. Crybaby Kermit then alleged he'd been headbutted (though the video shows otherwise) and the ref, bizarrely, overruled his own decision and allowed the fight to continue.

Cintron may have fought better in the remaining rounds but still lost them.

The "draw" was one of the worst decisions of that year.

I suppose I should make one thing clear. I don`t think that Barker would go on to become a great mw champ, or even win a trilogy with martinez - it`s just this one-off fight. i`m not so blinded with patriotism on this one. I know I was with hatton, I can be with Froch, and Lewis, Naz and Haye the patriotism dds to the points that i feel they are truly world class, elite fighters.

Barker, this one fight, the sense that martinez might just be a touch overrated (williams certainly was)... just a gut feeling, certainly understand the disagreement on this.

Froch is just flawed at that level or limited as other people would call it.... I won't judge on what they have on their record (khan beat a mexican legend on record, williams beat lara on record), I'll judge on performances and Froch has not been convincing at all agaist opponents a level below Ward.

As for Barker if his name was Khan/Haye it would be unanimous that he wouldn't have a chance in hell.

You posted that Martinez only getting a draw against Cintron should be held against him. Yet, looking at the actual fight, that was not a draw – it was a one-sided ass-whupping where Sergio beat him twice. If you knew that, you’re being deliberately misleading, if you didn’t and were just relying on what BoxRec says, then that’s ignorant.

Looking at your reply, I see now you were just being misleading. That’s very naughty of you.

Anyway, on the actual topic, The Ring’s Doug Fischer (who won’t be the new Editor-in-Chief, btw!) sums up the fight nicely:

Couldn’t have summed it up better myself.

I hope Barker can win it and does win it, I'm quite a big fan of his. I expect Martinez to win though, it may be a strength issue when it comes down to it.
