Anyone else think it looked too easy for Canelo?

Now, obviously, this is just my personal opinion, but am i the only one who felt Canelo could have literally taken Saunders out whenever he felt like it?

I should clarify I'm not a particular fan of either man, though, as a fan of the sport and not individual fighters (at least not among todays fighters), I do have a growing admiration for the way Canelo does business.

There's something refreshingly simple about his work - he trains hard, he walks you down, and he wins.

Now, clearly, it's because of hard work, and dedication, and...well, we know he likes his beef.
(As if he's the only professional fighter on PEDs...lol).

Anyway, the point I'm driving at is that as I watched the fight for a second time earlier, and took more time to watch Canelo specifically, I got the distinct impression he could have stepped on the gas at any moment and overwhelmed Saunders.

Maybe, he decided to make it last 8 rounds to give the paying fans a decent show?

Perhaps, he wanted a few rounds.

I don't know, but I felt like he could have upped the tempo any point and within a round or two had Billy Joe in serious trouble.

As for Saunders, maybe I missed something or am being overly critical, but I felt he woefully underperformed.

At no point did I ever feel he had the tools to dent Canelo.

He failed to do anything of note, in my eyes.

But, maybe I'm being unfair...I just feel like he was never going to do anything beyond tipppy-tappy back pedal to a potential points decision that nobody ever thought he'd get a fair shake at anyway.

In closing, does anyone else feel like it was all just a bit too easy for Canelo?

As for next, me, personally, I'd like to see him really take a risk to prove his potential greatness and face one of the legit 175 lbs guys...whichever, doesn't really matter.

The lack of power made it so Canelo didn't have to fear the shots. Even then he kept s good defence. Saunders didn't move as well as I thought.

He was also easier to hit clean than expected. Even so Saunders did have success here and there. The body shots really got to Saunders as he was ducking to avoid them which off set his movement more.

    100% agree.

Saunders simply didn't have enough power, or didn't have the confidence to really step into his shots for fear of what might come back in the other direction.

I still feel Billy Joe underperformed.

We kept hearing about how he raises his game depending on the opponent, yet he simply had no idea how to win the fight - save trying to scrape through to a points decision...which would probably seen him try to take the moral high ground by saying he was robbed.

well the only thing was how he'd peform because what he's cabable of. I thought he would have "ran" more using his legs. after 4 rounds I had it canelo 3-1 as did most people. so, no early lead for BJS. 6-7 were close but canelo was very accurate.

Canelo isn't a bum rusher. He takes his time and figures guys out. Similar to the Khan fight.

Saunders simply wasn't ever that good. And he's looked like ass for the last 3 years.

BJS mentally was defeated before the fight began. The signs were there for all to see. It was only after he survived a couple of rounds that he got a little bit of his confidence back.

Yes. Even after BJS had a good couple rounds Canelo never lost composure and he knew it was just as matter of time before the he landed big.

The difference between the two is just look at how hard BJS needed to work just to stay in the fight while Canelo looked like he was very comfortable with another gear he could go to if required.

Still peddling that theory I see. He didn't look like he lacked confidence during the ring walk or even the first few rounds. He got beaten by the better man simple as.

The ring walk felt a bit like a case of "protesting too much" if you get what I mean?

I was amazed at how many “swing and a miss” we witnessed from Big Red. If it was “easy” this would of looked like the Rocky or even Khan fight.
That final pop to the eye was enough to make anyone stop dead in his tracks and I was surprised BJS didn’t take a knee in pain. I was upset at first but Canelo put that eye on a different planet

    Just my thoughts.

Sorry, how it is "just as stupid"?

I mean, if we are going to talk about stupid responses to questions you are the clear winner today.

I think it was Canelo's biggest test for a while. There were 2 rounds (maybe 5 and 6) where Canelo looked quite frustrated. Saunders had neutralized Canelo's left hook to the head and jab and was countering Canelo's hook better than anyone had for years. I thought this was much higher stakes and more even than any fight since Jacobs.
