Anyone else think it's a shame the most famous and best fighter in the world . . .

He's funded the National Golden Gloves tournament by himself a few times. WTF is this ****. People make up what they want about Floyd and hope it fits the narrative

And i know that Mayweather comes across in most interviews as kind of awkward, repetitive and uncomfortable in his own skin, but you have to consider his background. Listen to an interview with Floyd Sr. or uncle Roger and tell me he doesn't sound surprisingly articulate and intelligent by comparison.

Although I knocked Floyd in the OP my point there was just to serve as a comparison to get people talking.

The main question I raised was what difference, if any, do you thin it'd make to boxing in its current state if the most famous (and best) fighter in the world was charismatic, engaging, confident and likeable.

Unfortunately people seem to have a hard to getting this and either come in to defend their idol, start slinging **** because they don't realise you can be likeable and charismatic without having a Phd or completely miss the point.

It might not make any difference to the sport - boxing might be as popular as its going to get. It was just a point for discussion.

Shut up headbanger. You haven't a clue what you're talking about.

It took being pressured by boxing fans and the whole country of Mexico for Canelo to fight Trout. They are both natural 154 pounders , Mayweather is not. He fought Cotto weighing 147-149.

Ive never heard any reports he was ever a ***** to any of his fans and always obliged them for photos and what not.

If he doesn't care about the sport why did he sign a 6 fight deal with Showtime.

His lack of exciting fights hurt boxing far more than his personality, IMO. Between a couple of his snoozefests and the Klits, the whole "boxing is boring" mantra really took hold and allowed MMA to grow.

In the last couple of years, I've grown to respect Mayweather's good qualities a little more while fully accepting that he, like all of us, is a flawed individual. Perhaps that comes with his having more exciting fights, but I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just getting a little older.

I think if he was the rolemodel your talking about he wouldnt be so popular and I blame the netowrk and TV channels at the end of the day they make the superstars and now they want to make broner a superstar and hes also an idiot. P.s. why have you got that hideous man on the magazine on your avatar, cant you put a fit girl on or something instead

Yeah because when people thought Ali was an arrogant, self-serving piece of sh*t boxing was at its low point

    1) Don't expect civilized discussion on ESB. The internet in general is bad enough, but this place is actually powered by pure rage, hypocrisy and racism (from all sides).

    2) Don't expect a sport that revolves around punching people to offer up many good role models.

Floyd is probably the best fighter of our generation, but he is not the man to take boxing to the mainstream. He played the game perfectly to maximize his own rewards, but not to maximize the status of boxing (which is not his, or any other boxer's responsibility).

I agree with an earlier post, that he, along with Wlad actually did a fair bit of damage to the reputation of boxing as an exciting sport in the eyes of the casual fans (add Audley to that list in the UK). We might not care about casual fans, but ultimately that is where all hardcore fans start, so they are required for the longevity of our sport. Unfortunately casual fans often don't have the knowledge to appreciate the quality of Mayweather's work - so they are put off before they gain the understanding to appreciate it.

Depends on how you look at it, standing up to a bully and knocking him out earning fame and fortune to come back stronger then ever.

    That's a good message.
