Some of things you said aren't that important but I would have definitely preferred a different type of personality (Ward for example) to represent American boxing.

It's sounds to me like you are looking for a good argument and attention more than anything with this thread. Floyd is a marketing genius. For an athlete he is doing ok in the interviews. The only harm done to the sport was not fighting Pac. He shares the blame with Bob, Pac and Easter Bunny.

Intelligence isnt Floyds problem. He cant engage a crowd or the media while speaking without either sounding stupid or repeating the same lines

Tyson could talk jibberish for hours and keep a crowd engaged be ause that was the person he was. Floyd just cant express himself in words well. Like he is afraid to be himself infront of the cameras and the only time he is entertaining is when he is angry

Watch the Hatton or DLH 24/7 when they get under Floyds skin, his worded barbs are better when he is angry and focused.

I agree. And I don't knock him for what he's done - he's done marvelous for himself. Better than I think even he could possibly ever have imagined. I am a huge fan of his when he's in the ring, I just can't watch interviews of his.

No he's not. He's just doing like many have before him and playing the villain. He's just such a good fighter that he can keep doing it over and over again because he isn't losing.

My point wasn't so much about Floyd doing harm for the sport as much as what GOOD for the sport could a more charismatic and likeable personality do.

It might be more, it might be less. It's just a discussion. Most people have spent it talking about Floyd rather than what opportunities would exist for such a character, etc etc

He's an idiot in terms of talking and behaving yes. In terms of fighting and making money then he's clearly not.

I'm not sure you're getting that regardless of how boxing was or is, it wasn't predicated on how the biggest star behaved.

I think it's more about May being immature. When I look at May, I see him as a young adult, even though he is heading towards 40. When you think of a guy like Ward, I see a MAN. May is immature...like a kid.

No, the sport isn't based on that. But as the most famous fighter on the planet, given the most media attention you have the most opportunities to influence the views and opinions of non-fans and casual fans.

My thread was simply to get people's views on what a more charismatic, likeable and media friendly 'most famous fighter in the world' could do for the sport (in terms of increasing it's popularity, bringing in more viewers etc etc), or even if they couldn't do anything at all.

I don't think it's that much of a complex idea really.

Where did he say that boxing was predicated on how Mayweather behaved? He just said it's a shame that the one who garners the most attention in what is indisputably a niche sport is total dickhead. How is this even debatable. It's exactly what Mayweather wants and it's exactly the persona he sells to make more money. What is the debate here, exactly?
