There are a bunch of similarities between them, such as starting rather late, looking impressive against solid opposition, and being on the wrong side on some scorecards (Chisora with Helenius, Jennings with Perez) but most notably that they did way better in a Klitschko fight they were rushed into, than anyone thought possible, and that they are expected to take the thrown soon. I think if Jennings fights Wilder next, it might even draw more comparisons because I think he gets knocked out, just like Chisora was knocked out by his countryman in Haye. IMO both guys are flashes in the pan, and will be back to perennial contender or maybe even journeyman status. Basically I don't think Jennings is this second coming some of you guys are thinking he is
I'm not comparing their fighting styles, just their situations, and IMO their trajectories. Both guys took Klitschko fights with a limited number of pro fights under their belts, both guys were meant to be cannon fodder, and both guys performed way better than anyone else thought they would I remember the English broadcasters, and Chisora's trainers saying he did so great being so green, and in a few years he would easily beat him, and last night the HBO crew were saying the same exact thing. However what people need to realize is that they weren't these young 21 year old guys in there, Jennings is 30. His athleticism will erode, and his mind and body is already fully matured and that he won't become a master technician all of a sudden now. This is probably the best Jennings will ever look, and the Vitali fight was also the best Chisora has ever looked.
I have resembled him to a young Tony Thompson for a number of reasons. http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=535428
I'm in the minority that felt Helenius Chisora match was close. I also think Jennings head is much more in control than Chisora's. I would like to see some of these top contenders that lose to Wlad fight each other rather than always dropping back down to domestic level. How about Jennings vs Pulev? Winner immediately goes back into top 3 contenders.
No, Chisora is damaged goods now. His confidence looked very low during his last outing and he has a lot of losses. He needs to pick himself back up domestically before further denting his reputation. A good fighter but he seems very affected by morale and where his head is at during that time. A few wins could do him a world of good. I too had him beating Helenius, but that's a long time ago now.
