Anyone else think Jones could give Hopkins more trouble than we think?

According to oddschecker.com, Hopkins is a 4:1 favorite over Jones.

Now, don't get me wrong. Hopkins is way more fresh than Jones and although Calzaghe & Taylor beat Bernard, no one has really given him a beating or decisive loss since Jones in 1993. That's damn impressive.

Jones on the other hand, is way past his best. No denying there. BUT his speed & stamina are still pretty good. His problem is big punchers, and regardless of Green's limitations, he hits like a truck.

Hopkins, however, has never been that big a puncher. And skilled boxers like Hopkins and Toney often match up bad with speed devils - as we've already seen in their first fight. Jones has the stylistic advantage here.

I'm not saying Jones should win, but i wouldn't be surprised if he does quite well, or at least better than expected.

One more thing. Pavlik was a 4:1 favorite over Hopkins...:smoke

Jones' problem is not only big punchers, but that he fails to let his hands go against anyone that is not a sitting duck. You can bet Jones will be way too conservative against a crafty veteran like Hopkins.

Sure he looked good against Lacy and Sheika, but they didn't pose a big threat to him. He didn't even start letting his hands go against Trinidad until 3 rounds into the fight when he finally realized he couldn't hurt him.

Calzaghe is not a big puncher, and he totally dropped his hands and Roy would barely throw a punch. Roy is still very much gun shy when his opponent poses a threat to him.

And his legs are shot. Did anyone watch him skipping during his media work out. He really looked bad.

His legs are really bad.... Hands are still fast, but what made him great was the combination of fast hands and legs that did not ever get tired. Allowed him to leap in and out at super human speed, and counter on the way out. He just can't do that anymore, not since the Ruiz fight, and it even had been fading slowly for a few years at that point.

    edit:

Not to mention the super human reflexes, When Jones turned his head and got hit by Green, you can see him doing that in his prime a lot.... He would turn his head and move it with the punch, his reflexes just are not fast enough to pull that off anymore, and his style was never suited for average reflexes, what he has now.

  5. I think this fight is going to be closer than expected. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones takes a decision and Hopkins gets screwed. It's a no win situation for B-Hop. Jones has so much to prove

I agree. I remember him from the the ruiz fight and previous. I hate when I hear people say he's a fraud and has a glass jaw etc. You can't be the best forever. It just reality. In boxing we shouldn't judge fighters by their decline but by their rise. On another note I still see Bhop beating that ass.

Roy is done like dinner, but let's not forget that Hop is 45 ****in' years old, and hasn't fought a top-level Light-Heavy opponent since Calzaghe in early '08. I wouldn't rule out anything in a match like this.

4-1 is free money. Should be more like 9-1.

I just feel like Hopkins' right hand will find Jones at will, and if Roy doesn't put his hands up and try to block it instead of trying to use his diminished reflexes, he will be knocked out.
