Anyone else think Jones could give Hopkins more trouble than we think?

Jones at 41 is still more versatile than Pavlik, and Hopkins is 2 years older now than when he fought Pavlik. Hopkins is 45. That is too old to be boxing. I guess he is boxing until he loses or looks old. He has looked great for his age so far, but at 45 he will look old very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones outboxes him, but he probably will not. Hopkins fighting at 45 makes it clear that he has been a great defensive fighter. A guy who has been in wars for as long as he has been fighting would not be able to fight so well now, just the fact he fights still proves he had not been hit much at all. But to get back to the original question, yes Jones could give Hopkins more trouble than we think. As a matter of fact one possible thing Jones might do is try and knockout Hopkins with one punch in the first round. No one would expect that, and Jones might try it. He might think it is his only chance.

I do, I feel Jones is a bit too much of the underdog. I could sense a more competitive fight than people think. I've considered betting but I don't like to bet on odds as much as I do with my confidence on the fight.

Anyways I hate to see this version of Jones being so vulnerable...it's like one day seeing Usain Bolt finishing 10th out of 10 sprinters in the final of the 100 meter run...

I too dont like to hear people call jones a fraud.... a fraud wouldnt have done what he did. However,
I think its fair to judge both prime and post prime, and judge both in moderation. You can tell a lot about how good a fighter is by how they perform when they are no longer their best (hopkins, lewis, SRL, Duran, ect) and i think that is what seperates true greats of the sport, from superhuman freaks of nature who need to be 10x faster then their opponents to win.... but obviously, one must account for Roys supreme dominence when in his prime, and that is what his legacy is built on, but i also think its fair that one be judged to how he performes once he starts slipping (im not talking now, now roy is totally shot.... but he wasnt shot for the three tarver fights regardless of the excuses, or for the Johnson fight, i do think now though that the man is shot)

but when fighters are on their slow and obvious decline, there is a lot that can add to a fighters worth and legacy from that should they prove they are forces to be reckoned with even past their prime.

And yes i think Jones is going to be more competetive then people think for the first 4 rounds, i think Hopkins will start laying it on thick though around the 7th and 8th and will win, though im not sure if he will be able to stop Roy.

I wanted to see Hopkins fight Danny Green in Sydney not this, why is Jones fighting Hop? he got KTFO in 1 rnd 55 second flat or something like that.I think Danny Green deserves this fight more than Jones.I was expecting Jones to last atleast 5 or 6 rounds when he came down here. But was shocked to see him rolling on the FLOOR with the first solid blow on his chin.

Im certain Jones will be somewhat competitive in this bout I think he wins 3-4 rounds and loses a decision. Hopkins isnt a big pressure guy and has average power with a low workrate I dont think Jones will find it to hard to survive. Jones still has a handspeed advantage over basically anyone he fights and that should give Hopkins problems agian like it did early vs DLH, Jones in 93, both JT fights and the Calzaghe fight. Hopkins can say oh hes coming to take Jones out all he wants but Hopkins has never been the type who agressivly seaks a KO so ill believe it when I see it. Hopkins did not look great to me vs his last opponet and if Hopkins shows up clearly past his prime which is possible at 45 it will happen eventually then I think this fight would be a tossup.

I was pretty unsure about Pavlik vs Hopkins. In my head i figured Hopkins has the foil to Pavliks greatest weapon, his power, Hopkins has a granite chin. Stylistically, Hopkins was going to do good against Pavlik. I couldnt get Hopkins age out of my head though.

Same thing here, my head is saying Hopkins as RJJ is shot to pieces, but stylistically, RJJ should do well against Hopkins. Hopkins workrate is not too great and Roy still has that speed. Mind you, if Bhop dealt with Calzaghes speed pretty well, no reason why he cant deal with RJJ's speed these days..

Jones is prefect for Hopkins, he'll start the fight moving around the ring but at one point he'll start to lay on the ropes, and that's where Hopkins wants him.
