I think the Haitian kid is getting rough scoring. He landed a very nice body shot at the end of the 3rd round but didn't get credit. The Brazilian understands the timing better, and both fighters are somewhat stuck in cement.
There's the reason he didn't get credit. I'm flabbergasted at the lack of body punching being scored. I haven't seen one yet.
I think the Brazilian actually got credit for a body shot, the only one I've seen so far. Had that fight been scored on a rounds basis, it probably would have been 2-2. The Haitian fighter dominated the final round but didn't make up any ground. Even Bob Papa commented on the weird scoring. A career AM like the 32-year-old Brazilian fighter has an advantage in this setting, although he probably won't advance very far. I could see the Haitian ending up on ESPN2 as an opponent one day.
A knockdown! Yes! The standing 8 count saved the Nigerian fighter. He was in a bad way after getting dropped.
These Africans are swinging for the fences. I'm glad the fighter from Ghana was able to catch up in that round. He has been pressing the action.
The fighter from Ghana has good speed and power. His defense probably is too poor for him to do much professionally, however. KO!
African fighters are strong as oxes and love to fight. I'll definitely make a point to watch the fighter from Ghana in his next bout.
He's flailing and falling in. Maybe he'll pull out the great equalizer that his father had. But it looks like the Irishmen will win this in a walk.
The Hawk's kid can punch, but has very poor technique. Not sure how he didn't get credit from the ref on the KD, though.
Watching these fights, it really makes me appreciate that Yuriorkis Gamboa was able to score 46 in one of his Olympic bouts and was at or over 20 in all of them. Absolutely astonishing.
It seems like there will be three more fights this evening. The upcoming one features a Kenyan, so hopefully he will bring the same grit that the previous Africans have. After that, we get our first look at a Chinese fighter. Finally, the Russian Artur Beterbiev, who took silver at the 2007 world championships, will fight. Decent slate of fights.
