Michalczewski didn't want to go to the USA to make the fight and RJJ didn't want fight in Germany which I can understand after that robbery in the Seoul Olympics. Collins he may have avoided not sure why...... McClellan fight might have eventually happened if the money was right. Eubank has publically stated that he would have lost to RJJ and didn't want that to affect his marketability. Benn knew RJJ would school him and turned down offers to make the fight. Calzaghe was ducking challenges worse than Hatton. The guy was known for pulling out of fights. He wanted to pull out of the Lacy fight due to a bad case of nerves. No chance in hell he would have went over to the US to face a prime RJJ. Granted RJJ could have tried harder to force fights but being the best he probably thought others should have put more effort into pursuing a fight against him than the other way around.
I heard all this before. But, he is still considered to be one of the best ever. Go figure. Truth is, talent-wise, nobody is even close.
I know for a fact that Eubank and Benn both wanted nothing to do with Jones at certain stages. Eubank much as I loved him as a fighter always took the easy road if he could help it apart from the Benn and Watson fights. Benn would only have been in line for a shot at Jones once in his career due to the time-lines and I believe it was after he'd beaten Jones friend McClellan. I remember reading somewhere that Benn himself said he didn't fancy getting the retribution from Jones for what he'd done to Gerald. Collins? Do me a ****ing favour he was a chancer who's best wins were against shot Benn and faded Eubank. Jones fought a great level of comp, and made them all look ****. Of course the morons will disrespect him but you can guarantee that the fighters the aforementioned morons cling to do not have the resume that Roy Jones Jr has, not a chance :yep
Don't buy into that "nobody wanted no part of Jones" crap. These guys are fighters/businessmen and Roy Jones brought the biggest paychecks in and around his weight division. There was a reason RJJr picked up the Reluctant Jones moniker:deal He lost me as a fan somewhere around the 5 year period he spent fighting civil servants!
"aforementioned morons"? morons because they have an opinion that differs from yours? you see disrespect as having the cahones to sway a little from mainstream thinking and put an opinion on the line rather than licking the roidsters balls and hyping him as the second coming, the benn source?
Seeing as I'm bored I'll entertain you. Firstly it's spelt "cajones" Secondly didn't you just suggest that DM would have 'murdered' Jones? The same DM that lost to Jones victim Gonzales? Bear in mind Gonzales wasn't just a Jones victim, he never even won a round against Jones and got decked 3 times The Benn source? Sure, it was Nigel Benn himself that said it. I can't prove it I admit, so feel free to bash away - Nigel Benn definately stated around 1995-96 that he didn't want to face Gerald McClellans friend Roy Jones after the McClellan fight because it would be 'too personal'. In other words he knew he was in for a hammering for what he did to Gerald. I don't agree with the revenge part of it but that's the real reason Jones and Benn never fought back then. It would have been pointless anyway, after McClellan Benn was a shell - 1994 Jones V 1990 Benn would have been competitive to a point I suppose but 1994-5 Benn V Jones would have been a massacre.
if you are going to correct someone, at least know how to spell the word correctly yourself. the word is cojones. cajones means big box or drawers.
feel free to entertain me i have a penchant for all things of the novelty persuasion.. secondly we went down this pedantic route before in an argument (though mainly frivilous)you clearly wanted none of,if spellchecking, being obtuse and transparently facetious is the float to your boat then im happy to oblige like you i WAS bored... thirdly the "he beat him so he would clearly destroy him" argument has been proved hopelessly flawed throughout time immemorial, anyone can be beat and i unlike the jones groupies am not making dariusz out to be a boxing demi-god but in my opinion he had a style which was similar to glenn johnsons but slightly more pristine. benn was a quintiscential throwback warrior,he would never have said that in the way you are taking it,on a personal level yes but not on a professional level,it wasnt in him to say no. and finally wih regards to jones(apply some to yourself also if needs must): As a lifelong pugilist fan, I feel a sort of self-righteous indignation towards some fighters of alleged greatness. Im talking about roid jones. I don't like him, and never will. Very few boxers can carry the precarious burden of being a "Great Fighter",and it isnt R.J so Without a fair measure of humility, you are nothing. lol.
There may have been a European ducked due to paranoia of foreign judges but I say he did a pretty great job especially compared to some other HBO franchises
