He has already legenderified with his one not two dismantlings of a Lennox trained hw. Fought his way Legitimately to the title twice and put good effort up against a great champion. If he got a shot at wilder and won no other man would deserve it more. At 45 too
On a personality level yeah. Seems like a good guy and gives some of the best post fight interviews in history!
He had two shots at Wlad and failed twice. He also lost clearly to Pulev and Takam. I see no reason to want him as a 'paper champion'. He's a respected contender, that's what he deserves.
11 minutes of pure gold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT-vBgU6Ejg "I got the Larry Holmes type body...Im not talking about the 80s, Im talking about the 2000s Larry Holmes type body" On the drug tests "All they gonna find is some donut juice and some fried chicken up in here" "How can look at this belly and tell me Im on something??"
Tony Thompson is a legend and I will be incredibly happy to hear "And the New, wbc champion of the world is, the hip breaker, the old man with a plan, Tonyyyy Thomspon!"
Thompson had two cracks for title. Don't need to see him with a strap at this point. He was a very good contender. Tonight's fight leaves the winner at fringe contender status. Doubt it makes either guy a real top ten opponent at this point.
No. He's old and slow and king of dull to watch, and he was butsed for roids. Hope to never see him in a ring again.
Thompson is far more accomplished, and proven than the fraudulent paper champ Beyonce who's sitting on the once vaunted WBC belt. It's a shame that guys like him who have fought everyone, held their own with the best as well as beaten some good fighters were never able to get their hands on a belt, and some spoon fed fraud gets one basically handed to him on a platter. Of course a true boxing fan who pulls for the good guys who proven themselves over a long period of time, would want to see someone like Thompson win a belt.....
Unfortunately for him, he fought most of his prime during the Klitschkos reign of terror, and when one of the belts freed up it was handed to Wilder. Just bad timing, and politics prevented him from ever winning a belt. He was obviously more than capable of doing so...
That I agree with. I think prime Thompson schools Wilder bad. Fact of the matter is, Wlad has sewn up so many belts for so long, There just are not many fighters active that are "former" belt holders. Unlike eras past. Truly dominant reign.
