My official fight prediction is Cotto TKO 10th, but this is not a thread about that. Rather, I have real mixed feelings about watching these two guys fight. Cotto has nothing but my highest respect. I believe the guy is class outside the ring and pure entertainment inside the ring. He is, in my opinion, the future of the 147lb division and will be the man who gives us several great fights in the next few years. For this reason, I want him to win. Mosely though, is one of my favorite fighters. He is a So-Cal native (Pomona), has always been a good guy outside of the ring, and is one of the most respectable guys in the sport IMO. I want him to win to get that one last victory. And most importantly I dont want him to catch a beating from Cotto. So, Im left wanting both to win for opposing reasons. Cotto, because he is the future, and Mosely, because he has been one of my favorites for a long time. Its tought to be a boxing fan in this situation. :bart
I do not have mixed feelings. I like Shane more, I know he is the better fighter, the more experienced fighter, the faster fighter, and the fighter with the best chin, and I know he will win.
I guess the best result for you would be if they drew... Somehow, I don't think this will be the actual result, I'm expecting a stoppage in the late rounds...
Im going for Mosley with a passion.... I like Cotto too, great fighter has class and good for the sport, but Shane has been one of my favorite fighters for years... I can't go against him.
I like both of them a lot and when the fight was first announced I thought it was 55/45 Cotto, but now I think it is 80/20 Cotto at least. I understand that Shane is showing his age after watching the Vargas fights again and just thinking about it realistically. He will not be able to deal with the insane pressure and body punishment the much younger Cotto brings. I see no way Shane will win a decision, but I could still see him getting the knockout. Cotto has been hurt many times before and Shane is a much better finisher than Judah/Torres/Corley.. that's the only thing I'm worried about. I think Cotto will break Shane down and really make him show his age, then stop him late. It will be sad to see Shane get knocked out if it does happen, but the excitement of thinking about Floyd vs Cotto will balance that out. And even if Cotto loses, he deserves a shot at Floyd because stylistically, he creates the closest, most exciting matchup PBF can have.
I like seeing overhyped guys get taken down a peg, which is why I enjoyed Pavlik-Taylor so much. Cotto seems like a decent guy, but the hype train is way overbooked and I think Shane is about to send the railroad car off of the tracks. I can't wait to watch this fight. If Cotto is dealt a setback, it will be interesting to see how he deals with it. Will he 'man up' like Shane did after the Forrest and Wright fights, or will he fall into the abyss like the Prince? I think he'll come back strong when and if he loses to Shane, but we might find out soon enough.
I can't pick 'em either. I like both of them and both wish them the best. I have a gut feeling Shane is gonna show how sweet he is.
Cotto has been dealt quite a few setbacks in his career and I think you know how he dealt with them. KO, KO, KO. Don't compare this to Pavlik-Taylor please. It's a huge insult to both Cotto and Mosley.
He hasn't been dealt an "L," which I think is next up on the schedule. Getting knocked down is not the same as getting beaten. I think we are but a week away from seeing how Cotto will deal with that, provided Father Time lets Old Man Mosley get the job done.
What exactly has Shane shown in the last 3 years after losing to Wright? He beat a shot Vargas and a lower top 10 welter.. that's it. I am not questioning how tough Mosley is or anything like that by the way. I just don't think he has shown us anything in years to really make me think of him as a true elite fighter at this point.
That's fair. He looked very good in his last fight. We can disagree. It won't take long to find out what will happen. I have a "1-month off" bet with someone on the fight here at ESB, can't recall who it is with at this late hour. IMO, Cotto is 'made' for Mosley. The only guys who ever gave Mosley trouble are taller and larger guys. Cotto is shorter and has less reach than does Shane, and is not as strong. I think Shane is really going to put it on Cotto. But I could be wrong. Can't wait to find out.
Me! I hate to see these two guys fight . . . and see one of them lose because I'm a big fan of both. :| :| :| But a Cotto victory would be better for the sport because Mosley is on the way out, so I would prefer a Cotto win. :yep
Cotto isn't as strong as Shane? I think he's definitely stronger than an old Mosley, who was at his best at 135. I would never take an avatar bet on this because it's too risky, but I am confident Cotto will win. I can't wait to find out too.. hopefully it won't be too sad looking at the loser. I hate the awkwardness of watching two favorite fighters trying to destroy eachother.
