I love boxing and love training and fighting, I'm nearly 30 now though and didnt start boxing until 2 years ago. I had my 11th fight the other night and ended up getting a broken nose. Its splattered across my face and squint as ****.
I dont mind having black eyes after sparring and the pain doesnt bother me but having to wlak about permenantlyw ith a squint nose or other damaged facial features is making me doubt wether I want to fight as regualrly as I have been. I feel like a ***** for thinking this way but I enjoy pulling women and having a big crooked nose aint going to be of much benefit.

Anyone else ever feel like this? I;m thinking of just fighting on my club's home show every year and then entering the 2 major chamionship- distrcit and national. That way I have 3 fights per year minumum and more if I win in the championship fights. It reduces the amount of bouts where the possibility of me getting a damaged face occurs but menas I get fewer fights.

  2. Whatever you do now you will look back on. Think of it that way. I would prefer to have good stories over a nice nose. I suppose there are other ways to have good stories though...

Well, if what worries you is your face, you're just as likely to get your face damaged on a home show and two tournaments as on another random show (and even sparring). In fact, if you go in the nationals with limited activity during the year, you'll be less sharp and would probably have a higher chance of having your face done in!

I don't see anything wrong with having thoughts like this - having a nice face is not just vain, but can impact how you are viewed at work etc. But I just don't think doing boxing half hartedly is the answer. I see boxing as a sport that your either living and breathing and have accepted the consequences, or your a fan / keep fitter who only works out...

Aye suppose that's true. You can only really "peak" about 2-3 times a year if you want an 8 week training camp and a lot of the shows I fight on I get anywhere between 2-3 days and a months notice so I'm never at my peak for them.

I think if your fighting all the time you spend your time preparing for fights rather than working on certain aspects of your game, but as you say you need the sharpness you get from regular fighting and the standard of boxer in championships is going to be higher. By the law of averages though you would think that the more you fightt the higher the chances of catching an unlucky punch.

    Its a tough one.

I wear my boxers nose with pride, the wimmens love it :bart

Growing my hair again for the first time in about six years because of that nose though. Flat nose and a shaved head is a bit too much.

As weird as it may sound I actually kind of like having a black eye and/or busted lip. And this may sound even weirder but it's actually help me talk to more women. A lot of times they come up to me when I'm working out at the gym like "oh what happened that looks like it hurts" and then the converstation just takes off from there. This isn't always the case though sometimes people are totally freaked out by me like I'm Frankenstein. But hey both reactions are equally fun :hammertime

It's common sense, but there's no such thing as boxing without being hit.

Exactly there is really no way to not ever get hit in boxing (well I guess anythings possible but its extremely unlikely) the only thing that you can do is get hit less. You're going to take shots in boxing, it's just the plain and simple truth.

I had a discussion about this with a fellow boxer. He was worried about breaking his nose. I could personally care less about looks, I'm ugly as **** already, it couldn't get that much worse. However, I'm worried about permanent brain and eye injuries. Superficial damage don't matter much to me.
