Anyone feel bad for Sergio Martinez?

Of course I do, I think any real boxing fan knows that he would have had Cotto out of there anytime from 2009-2012.

It isn't even up for debate.

He looked completely shot and operated on 1 leg. It was heartbreaking.

 

Yeah it was MVC! It really bothered me seeing him go out like that, and I have always been indifferent to Martinez. (not a fan, not a hater) It was just very disappointing.

 

It was very disturbing to watch the guy couldn't even throw a punch.

 

He talked a lot of smack during the build up for the fight. Knee surgery or not. If you can't walk the walk, don't talk the talk.

Not everyone is Floyd.

Edit: I agree 2009 Martinez would have beat Cotto but like I said, you can't talk all that smack and lose. Makes you kook like a dickhead

I personally think he should have retired. He knew that his knee was ****ed from the start and was probably just thinking about the retirement money. He probably did give it his all in the fight but he knew it wasn't there from the start. The dude's had like 3 knee surgeries. atsch

Sergio has been my favorite fighter for a few years now, and it was sad to see that happened to him. 2-3 years ago he would have toyed with Cotto, now he isn't even a shell of his old-self.

I agree about him coming up the hard way. People knock him for being an ex-cyclist/footballer, but he was an ELITE/WORLD CLASS Boxer for years on end.

Plus, he seems like a super cool dude as well.

Whatever he does in retirement I wish him all the best!

Yes. Been a big fan of his since watching him in 2003 beating up Richard Williams. He's had a long career and done it the hard way with no big promoter etc.

Hope he retires now.

I don't like the fact that I was sold a lemon in this fight, but it was exciting to see something which I was very confident wouldn't happen (Cotto winning, especially in that dominant of a way).

He took the fight, knew what condition he was in more than anyone else, and lost.

At the same time its probably hard for him to admit there is a problem. We all do this... I know I do when it comes to my injuries anyway.

But still you have to give respect to Cotto unlike many idiots on here. He had no idea what Martinez he was facing, and trained for the best Martinez............Lucky for him he got the worst Martinez.

 

Not a bit. I am PROUD what he archieved as late bloomer.

 

It was sad to see. He should not of been cleared to fight.

When he threw his straight left with a bit of conviction he fell over ffs.

Id rather see a guy earn such a big accolade as the Lineal MW Title not get it handed to then on a platter against a guy who spent most of his time out of the ring on crutches.
