I'm the most experienced guy in my gym, so I often spar people with less than 10 fights, even 5 fights..sometimes people with no fights at all. I sometimes feel like when I spar the people that haven't had a fight yet, it's awkward as ****! They're wild, they punch leaning back, they jump about 5 feet away when you make even the slightest movement, ect ect. But yet I can spar someone who is closer to my experience and it brings o ut better in me. Anyone else?
Of course. They're awkward as **** and do nothing a boxer is supposed to do. I always keep my distance for a while until I know what makes them tick.
Also if they're less experienced and/or smaller than you, you will have to hold back so you don't hurt them. I tend to spar at the level of my opponents. So put me in whith someone good who can challenge me and push me, I'll do good. Put me in with someone smaller, less experienced where I have to take it easy and I look like crap.
Nah I usually feel like I do worse when I spar people with much much more experience. Put me in with the rest of the beginners and I usually do fine.
This is also a factor. They'll be scared shitless of you and go all out. You can't do much back because you'll get slapped by your trainer. At least I would.
You don't want to hurt them and having to pull your shots even more you are wary of beating them too bad.
That's true. I'll 'lose' sparring more expeirenced people and 'win' sparring noobies, but my overall technique is better when I have someone good in front of me and I'm sorta fighting for my life haha compared to when I'm in there with a new guy and it's not challenging.
I don't spar like I usually do against new guys. I usually fight on the inside and do very good body work, but I can't really do that to a new guy.
I just take afew shots on the gloves half-arsed throw a jab, then at the end of the round whack them in the ribs to show who the Daddy is.
I'm still pretty new myself (1.5 years of boxing/60 rounds of sparring), but when I get in with guys who are newer than me and/or suck really bad, I usually just work my jab A LOT more. That and head movement. If they're bumrushing me like crazy I'll often crack them a good one just to keep from getting hurt myself lol. But yeah, it's awkward because newer guys usually try REALLY hard because they feel like they have to prove something.
i have this problem too, when i spar people with less experience who brawl, jump all over the ring with the slightest movement and throw wild punches i sometimes dont do aswell as i do against more experienced amateurs or pros who actually box and throw proper punches.. when i spar someone who is being wild and brawling i usually end up brawling back because i get frustrated. When i spar some one who boxes i get to use my skill..
I am the opposite probably because of my style. I am almost always faster and better conditioned than inexperienced guys and tire them out with my aggressive workrate and movement. They always try to match the output and get hit cleanly a lot, then I really swarm them when they are afraid to punch back. I am about one thirty but this works against guys of almost any size. I hate fighting counterpunchers and even slow ones can catch me - they don't try to match work rate and don't get as tired. A disciplined fighter can keep the jab and left hook working but my style tends to make me look invincible against inexperienced guys. But an average guy who can keep his head and not try to match the work rate won't get so overwhelmed. My sessions are never close. I win big and flawlessly or I get my ass handed to me.
