I think he has a chance if the opponent is wearing a dress.

The Duran of the Davey Moore fight would have knocked Ayala out.

*Of the 4 guys of the early 80's... no doubt in my mind... Ayala kills Duran... Ayala beats Benitez as well... there's nothing Benitez did that was better than Ayala...and Ayala was still young..we never saw Ayala in his prime... Hearns and Leonard i their prime r tough matches for anyone...esp Hearns... but again, Ayala had a great style for Hearns..Ayala was a visious body puncher..even now, there's no-one who punched to the body like Ayala...

You sure know boxing, my good fellow! Most people here dismiss Tony as just another also-ran but you're very keen on Tony's strengths, in particular his power, aggression and body punching. Duran and Benitez would definitely have been blown out. Hearns could indeed be a tough match, but given Tommy's glass chin....

The only guy that could probably take out Ayala would've been Hagler, at the top of his game.

Moore had blown out a similar hypejob in Charlie Weir (who was generally more impressive against Ayala's common opponents). No telling if Ayala would have beaten him.

Duran would have taken the poor kid apart, anyone who has followed Duran's career knows that he is at his best against fighters like Ayala.

The most impressive thing he ever did was with headgear on.

His professional career proved nothing to even mention him alongside a Duran or a Hagler.

He had decent wins, but none against a high class of fighter. I give him the potential nod, as he had plenty, but he didnt do anything with it.

If Davey Moore has his head on right, and was not sick, I think he probably takes Tony. Some of the IBF guys, he may have taken, but I truthfully cannot see Tony beating a Hearns, McCallum, Benitez, or even Julian Jackson.Mugabi is around 50-50.
