Anyone finding the Froch-Kessler II build up a little cringe-worthy?

Yeah, thats all people were saying about the fight. "Have you seen the size of valuev". Got a lot of people talking and sold the fight well.

Every SBO promotion seems a bit cringey to boxing fans. But they're not trying to sell it to us.

The Haye promotion was excellent. My girlfriend at the time worked a Friday/Saturday job at her local chinese. She's heard of Haye from me and knew the fight was coming up. The whole Friday night, nearly every customer came in and mentioned the Haye-Valuev fight.

I wonder if they've managed the same with Froch.

 

Chisora vs Haye build up was the best, i over heard more people talking about Haye vs Chisora in public, when i was getting the train, or in the pub! It was a fight that partly promoted itself.

Allot of fight promotion for big fights is driven towards the casual sports fan. You guys should be glad a Boxing match is being promoted as being a great fight rather than a foney war of words and trash talk for once.

Regarding Froch not being a star, niether were Ricky Hatton & David Haye until they fought on PPV.

 

Not even a little! She's a full-time psychologist helping troubled young people now, as far as I know. Shame she couldn't help herself while we were together!

 

That is categorically untrue regarding Hatton. That was the reason he ended up on PPV.

 

Froch will never be a "star". No disrespect to to his fighting qualities but he just doesn't have the personality.

 

Haye had the HW thing going for plus as it's been said above, the Valuev fight was an easy sell.

 

As you say Ish, totally different rules regarding PPV, purses etc for heavyweights..

 

Considering the years of terrestrial exposure (BBC and ITV) and his relatively entertaining style, this is a reasonable conclusion. He comes over as arrogant and deluded a lot of the time, when he's actually aiming for dry.

Phoning Joe Calzaghe was a particularly painful moment, especially when Calzaghe was so pleasant (if not particularly engaging).
