Anyone finding the Froch-Kessler II build up a little cringe-worthy?

I was only commenting on his performance, which was indeed dire. The whole point of sticking him on the Ross show wasn't to cement his support it was to pique interest amongst the general public, I can't imagine him generating any more buys based on that limp performance

I don't think that the fight is PPV worthy in the first place, in fact I feel a bit ripped off in paying my Sky subs and then being forced to pay again to watch. Its a good fight don't get me wrong, but its certainly not a block-buster....Blockbuster fights are the only ones that are PPV worthy in my view

 

I like Froch, but I don't think this rematch is PPV-worthy. Froch lost the first match clearly, he was lucky to get the decision against Dirrell, and Ward absolutely schooled him (ironically only the British judge got the right score on the night).

The win over Bute was good, but other than that? Old man Johnson, who was faded and now completely shot. Abraham, who's lost to ever world-class SMW he's faced. And Yusef Mack. Wow.

How has he fought himself onto a PPV?

 

I have Friochs career boxset and I can assure you that the vast majority of his pre Taylor fights were on mainstream TV. The fact that he has never been able to build on that free and massive exposure is down to him and his constant whining about Calzaghe.

 

There's a load of bull**** that Froch was badly promoted under Mick Hennessey. Hennessey took him from an unexceptional amateur to a WBC title. He had him on the BBC when he was a prospect, he had him on Sky all throughout his British and Commonwealth reigns, then got him on ITV for his title-winning bout against Pascal.

He fought his biggest (and possibly his most exciting) fight in front of the largest audience of his career, all because of Mick, and still couldn't make it as a star.

Froch was spoiled for coverage, to say otherwise is just bull****. Why would being on Sky through the Super Six have made him bigger? Mick still got Carl the best deal he could have, he was on Showtime, getting big money and big exposure.

At some point, with all the coverage he got, you need to point the finger at someone other than his promoter, or the TV networks. Eventually it needs to go to Carl.

 

Just can't see this as being ppv worthy even though it's one I'm really looking forward to like most other folk on forums like this. Am pretty sure Froch doesn't have as wide an appeal with the general sporting public as is imagined. And I'm assuming a fair few non boxing fanatics are going to be needed to purchase the fight to make it a success.

 

Both guys are long past their prime-so it's even.

The SSN machine and fights like Froch-Kessler being on Sky and not Primetime would have been a huge differance for his profile.He`s now a world champion on Sky and being talked about on ringside and on SSN has boosted his profile

 

I know his early fights were on BBC and Sky.I just believe by ending up on Primetime when he did made him the fogotten man in British boxing at the wrong time in his career.I will agree he didn`t come across well when chasing Calzaghe.

I like Froch, I've followed him for most of his career. But whenever I hear him, or his fans, complain about how he hasn't received the exposure he deserved I like to put it back in perspective.

I have some ambivalence towards Hearn. He seems like a nice guy and he's got a good manner, but I've not seen much from him to make me thinks he's that different from Frank et al, bar having a Twitter account.

What bothers me, and I've said it a lot, is that Hearn usually gets a pass for doing the same stuff Frank or Mick has done. There are posters on here falling over themselves to praise the return of pay per view. Because, if Eddie says PPV is good, it must be good!

It's typical of ESB that presenting a critical opinion is seen as the same as "hating" someone. Sometimes it's just an opposing view to bring some balance.

 

Froch said recently that he almost left Hennessy before the Jean Pascal fight, and had a spat with him over the press releases about Calzaghe this and Calzaghe that - that never came out of Froch's mouth. He said he wanted to beat "a name" and do it himself, without the amateurish Hennessy trash-talking press releases.

After Jermain Taylor he did do, which was 4 months after the Roy Jones fight i believe. Calzaghe told hennessy that he wasn't coming back, despite the bumper offer available, that he was "done" and Froch said he'd never call him out again. And didn't.

The early days of Haye, Froch, Class of 2002, were all snippets on a Sunday if i remember correctly, on BBC. Then Haye went with Maloney and off to Sky, then Hennessy followed suit shortly afterwards.

 

Sometimes I swear you can't read. I was replying to the notion that Froch has "earned" a PPV slot. Not that Froch doesn't have a solid record.

The day Hearn puts a british title as a ppv or a Khan-Salita type fight is the day I will compare him with *****
