Philadelphia Jack O'Brien boxed Jack Johnson, Harry Greb & Joe Louis. Greb & Louis in sparring but still pretty impressive stuff. At work at the minute so will try to add further info later if i get chance.
George Dixon is generally considered one of the best boxers to come from the formative years of gloved boxing. I did some research on him for one of Boildermaker's decade vs decade threads, but I am no expert. He was a defensive marvel according to all, used blocking, slipping and foot movement to keep out of the way of punches. He had solid straight punches and mainly utilised these, as he liked to stay outside and controll the distance and pace of the bout. A true Ring General so to speak. On the offence side I have already mentioned his straight shots but he also had a fairly unique strategy of rushing forward and pinning his opponents against the ropes and landing some body punches. I'd probably aliken this to when Whittaker got inside and launched those solid body shots. I don't know much past that, his fighting ability and style, as that is all I have looked at and it was just breifly. I know there is some guys on here who are very up on Dixon and I am sure can fill you in on his career.
