Anyone here believe that Liston could have beaten 70's Foreman?

What a matchup this one would be....! A genuine 50/50 pick. Possibly THE two most powerful,intimidating heavies ever. Mike Tyson was a poodle,in comparisson.

 

Sonny Liston and George Foreman did spar at Dick Saddlers Gym in Oakland in
1968, before George fought in the Olympics in Mexico City.

Also, at the Ringside Gym in Las Vegas in December 1969.

 

And George said that he landed some really powerful shots,and Sonny barely grimaced !

both are top 5 on my h2h list.two of the most intimidating hw's ever.

 

Liston by KO. In his prime, he's too sound and powerful for Foreman to handle. Plus he's got that long left jab and slightly faster hands.

 

And Mariusz Pudzianowski could do it ten times without skipping a beat. Doesn't mean he'd stand a chance against either of them; it's a boxing match, not a strongman competition.

Foreman looked up to Liston.

When Liston and Foreman sparred together, Foreman landed his best shots and Liston said to him "Is that all you got, n*gger ******?"

Psychologically, this is Liston's fight.

 

No disrespect intended, but I've never really heard this and it doesn't sound like Liston who usually didn't trash talk unless he gets insulted himself

I think this is an excellent match tho

 

No, Tyson is and Ali is second.

 

I second this, i wouldn't expect Liston to say such a thing, he wasn't a foulmouthed headcase like post-prison Tyson.

 

Sonny only hated 'cops',,,,,,,,,,,and though he sometimes pounded on sparring partners,
he respected all fighters who got in the ring with him..

Willie Ray Richardson, said Sonny was the best 'boss' ever.
He would always want you to do your best against him.

But Sonny's punch was gone in 1969, especially after 6 rounds.

 

The idea Liston is naturally stronger than Foreman is puzzling anyway. I guess it wasn't natural, and Foreman was still a teenager than.

 

True,,,,,,,George was still growing in 1969.

But the 'old man' did have that natural strength.
Just how did the hell did he lose,,,,,,,,,,,baffles the mind..
