what are your guys prefered option when a guy has almost passed your guard? in other words hes cleared your legs but hasnt quite got side control. Ive just been trying to hip escape and replace the guard or dig for under hooks.. any suggestions?
Depends rusty. If his hips are facing you and he's passing on the right of you, what I like to do is swim my right arm under his weist and bridge out with your head turnin towards his hips. Basically your adding the acceleration to his pass by turning towards it, therefore escaping on the other side with your legs swinging towards him with lots of space in between you two(he's turning clockwise and you're turning counter-clockwise therefore more speed). It often ends up that you end up facing the floor on your knees because of the times when your opponent holds you tighter. This way when you escaped your hips and head out as much possible you try to go on your knees to square up facing him. That can back fire if he holds a collar choke. Hard to explain it online but the move will work very often against "non-wrestlers" and anything under brown belt. Here's what I'm talking about. [YT]dK9D4zhCCnY[/YT] As you can realize this could work in many situations when you're able to get your right arm in behind his waist. You need space to move your head through which is created by your bridge and your right side bench press/curl-like motion. What you mentioned also works but I don't use it as much, though I should, because how often my way works.
yeah thats beautiful im ganna try that. im just wondering though do you ever find they can snatch an armbar when you swim your arm under the waist, or does the leg usually have enough of a hold?
I can't see him getting an armbar from that, you'll notice his right arm is controling the guy on tops hips, stopping him from mounting. I wish I could see it from other angles though.
Video only shows the "motion" and the under hook im telling you about. But not the bridge and shrimp that should come with it to create more space. Arm bar won't be an issue because it happens too fast and you'll notice that his left arm rolls towards the ground as the move progresses(when doin the bridge and shrimp out you should land on your left should anyways). You'll only have to worry about collar chokes while training Gi.
Don't worry if you find it tough or confusing at first, there is a lot to learn! Just stick with it and keep going to the classes. Inspirational Quote of the Day Black belts are just white belts who didn't quit. - Renzo Gracie
