Anyone here ever meet Jack Dempsey ?

I’ve never seen so many likes. I’ve read the quote I can’t remember where but maybe I should credit myself with its invention. “Dempsey is a Tiger with manners” do you remember much of what he said? You’re so cool btw…

 

My father's stepfather lived in Colorado in the mid 1910s and did some boxing back then. He knew Dempsey from train riding with him before he became famous.

 

I traveled back in time twenty years before my birth to meet Dempsey and you're calling me a liar???

I agree. He lived in Manhattan after the restaurant closed in the East Fifties, a few blocks from my extended family. I was just really getting into boxing in the late 1970s as a young kid and starting HS in 82 and starting to have the guts to try and stop by his building but ran out of time as he passed in 83. Always bummed me out I didn’t get it together to try.

 

We’re very lucky to have Jack Dempsey, THIS IS YOUR LIFE circa 1957 on YouTube. The Mauler was 61/62 yo, still looking very robust and strong.

A gentleman? Personified. I also liked the respect shared between he and old foes like Fred Fulton, Luis Angel Firpo and Georges Carpentier (the Orchid Man was another great character, total class).
