Frightening display of power from the 37 year old Shaver's.

Drops Bugner like a sack of crap with a ultra shot uppercut while he's backing up, even.

    Scary stuff.

Yes, I saw it. Earnie showed he could still hit, and Joe just couldn't stand up to the power.

As i Recall Bugner saw out the round, Used his Footwork and Jab to Avoid Earnie in the Early part of the 2nd, - Then Started to Come back at Earnie ! Joe was Stopped on a Cut as i recall - Earnie did not Blow Joe Away, and if not for the cut Who Knows....

The fight wasn't the total blow-out that you'd think it was, judging from the record book. Bugner was stopped on cuts, and he was coming on strong when the bout ended.

Bugner was floored in the first round by a massive Shavers right hand in the first round, but he arose unhurt. Bugner's durability was amazing.

As to how the fight went, Shavers won the first because of his aggression. Bugner was content to play defense in this round, and to cover up on the ropes when necessary. Shavers managed to land a huge overhand right over Bugner's guard, and the punch had a delayed reaction Bugner, who staggered to his knees a couple of seconds later.

In round two, Bugner began coming on, and he scored frequently with light punches to the head and body. Shavers wasn't throwing as much leather in this round. One of Shavers's overhand rights however did land and cut Bugner, the result being that the fight was stopped immediately. Bugner was very frustrated.

If I had been Bugner's manager, I would not have taken this fight, as Bugner had been out of the ring for the better part of five years prior to fighting Shavers.

The entire bout can be watched on youtube.com.

i think bugner was unlucky to be cut but thats boxing. joe was doin a good job in there and who knows how it would have gone had the injury not occured...shavers was not known for his stamina and bugner did have durability on his side...
