I've always found it interesting that a man with a ko % of nearly 70%, with 71 kos in 88 wins , could neither ko, or floor a past prime light heavyweight, whom he outweighed by 84lbs.:think

I've come to the following conclusion (not set in stone) that Primo had aload of set-ups in his earlt to mid career because of betting considerations, lack of belief in him by his handlers and a simple lack of ability( he had a weak chin and lacked a big punch. However the amount of contests he had and his ability to learn, allied to his natural physical talents and courage brought him to a position where he could genuinely beat good level fighters like Neussel, Uzcuden and Loughran. The early set-up and barnstorming explain his high ko % but he was not a concussive puncher. I admit the Sharkey fight troubles me but it looks genuine eneough? I mean with the exception of the Gains loss he went the "fake" Stribling fights to the Haynes fight, 1928-1936 with only a handful of losses, disputed losses to Poreda and Maloney(avenged) and champions Sharkey (avenged?) Baer (brave, injured and leading or close at the end) and Louis with a slew of decent fighters beaten. I thought I'd never arrive at this position because I believe See almost completely.

I agree with this view completely. It mirrors my own thoughts on Da Preem.

Ive read several interviews with him where he claimed to have been robbed in fights and that in those fights the newspapers felt he won. When you go back and read the actual accounts of those fights from the newspapers you find that is not the case.

Ive seen this in regards to his fights with Delaney, Greb, Stribling, and Carnera.

He went so far as to say that he beat Carnera easily but had to agree to knock Carnera out to win. Nevermind that the it was a WIDE unanimous decision for Carnera.

He said the punch Sharkey knocked him out with was a "lucky punch" nothing could be further from the truth. Sharkey forced the fight the entire time. He landed several of those same overhand rights in all three rounds. The last time he landed it he rushed Loughran who went straight backwards (a no no) and Sharkey nailed him.

Tommy Loughran was a great boxer for a LH with only one oiffensive weapon, an accurate left jab...With only a talented jab his rise to the LH title is truly amazing...He claimed that he once had a great right cross, but
permanently damaged his right hand early in his career...Who truly knows today.? The difference between Loughran and later Irish counterpart Billy Conn was that Billy Conn though not a heavy hitter, was a fiery slashing two handed puncher, who sailed into heavy punchers because Billy threw caution to the winds all the time...I revere Nat Fleischer's boxing acumen
but he placed Tommy Loughran many notches over Billy Conn as a great LH, but I for one disagree...There will never be a Billy Conn again. Of that I'm sure...
