i have to spar a 15 year old kid who is in my weight class, he is one tough SOB to hit and he throws punch after punch, now i'm not training to fight at the moment but to those who are doesn't that affect your confidence going into a fight and thinking you were getting outsmarted and outboxed by a kid for your preperation?
i spar rory, he is 19, fit as a butchers dog and a former southern areas middleweight champ (novice) and he regulary beats the granny out of me. i still got the old equalisers though, keeps him honest. what you have to remember, is sparring classy fighters will only improve you in the long run.
there are 2 kids who everyone should look out for in the 2012 olympics, matthew hedges and billy morgan, both beat the dog **** out of me! both trained at west ham but now hedges moved to repton because of a minor fall out.
its great but the kid has been training at west ham since he was 5, his father and all his uncles also trained there and his cousins are still there.
I spar a lot with younger guys; some 15/16 year olds, but also guys older and bigger than me, who are 24/25 sometimes. It can only help because it lets you see and learn to deal with completely different styles.
I've never ducked a man in my life; particularly not some jumbo heavyweight that outweighs me by 40 pouds.
I don't get why it should bother you who your sparring regardless of age,it's all part of training in my Gymn.....you have a go with whoever.
occasionally I'll spar younger guys, 19 or below, and in general unless they are serious fighters they tend to be too easy to psychologically discourage with a few flurries. When they see that I am faster, stronger than I look, and more aggressive, they usually don't have the mental toughness of even a physically limited older fighter. I also like to invite them to hit me if I know they can't hurt me sometimes, and this further weakens their mental resolve. Physically I don't know if their is a significant difference, but a mature man can wait out a storm that makes a child panic.
i would agree with you but somtimes just fightign somone leagues ahead of you is counterproductive and might warp your confidence.
not really...a lot of the kids my age [17] in my gym are between 130-145 pounds while i am 165..I usually spar with the guys that are in their 20's or my trainer
yes, at a shade under 130 I usually have to spar kids and they just don't have the upper body development for me to unload on them and get quality sparring and not feel very bad about it. Then when I fight a real man at that weight I am a bit surprised - though he walks around at about 150 or more sparring Auggie Sanchez was roughly the same as committing suicide.
