Gomez is not a big puncher.

Cotto almost got KTFO by Torres and also by DeMarcus Corley, not to mention Mosley was running him out of the ring when they fought. Quintana is a good boxer but not rough so Cotto blew him out. Gomez has fought guys who very recently have fought at 168, like Manfredo. I'm not a betting man but if I was I'd lay some funds on Gomez to overpower Cotto, with straight rights and hooks like he did Gatti, and stop Cotto who is a propped up HBO fighter with no range and poor defense.

That's why I love HBO, always building people up so people in the know can cash in:D

Also, look for Tarver to blast out Clinton Woods, who is marginal at best.

I called Mosely-Forrest the first time correctly so I am due my props when it comes to predicting.

This is pretty much my feelings on the fight. People here try to outhink themselves. Gomez is inferior to Cotto in every department except size. Gomez isn't as good as Quintana and look what happened to him. Gomez has some nice skills which keep the fight entertainings. However, he's going to get overwhelmed and beatdown. A lucky punch or a Cotto injury is his only hope.

I just don't see how Gomez can be competitive. The reasons given seem to be that he's a solid, big welterweight. That's not enough. If Gomez wins, it will be the upset of the year.

The only way I see Cotto losing is if Gomez lands a huge punch he didn't see coming. Other than that I expect Cotto to brutalize him and possibly stop him in round 9.

    Saturday nights winners will be....

    Cintron TKO Margo
    Cotto TKO or UD
    Dawson UD
Tarver TKO (changed my orignal pick)

This is the first time in a long time a big underdog like this has so many picking the upset. I can't figure it out.

    1. How did Gomez earn this title shot anyway????
    2. Gomez is not a big puncher. Feliciano was stopped by 140 pound Mike Arnaoutis, but went 1-1-1 with Gomez.
    3. Gomez looked shaky at times against tough, durable but smaller, limited and past his prime Ben Tackie .

Put it down on record that Cotto butchers Gomez fairly easily.

I'm with you 100% on this. So many people are picking what I consider a prohibitive underdog, I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing something. But none of the reasons people give for picking Gomez make any sense to me.

In all honesty my pick has nothing to do with the PR vs Mex thing, though intresting it has nothing to do with my picks. Gomez does nothing better than Cotto yes he does have a size advantage and an underrated punch but he has GED in boxing and Cotto is on a Masters level at the moment. Cintron vs Margo is a tougher pick and probably the better fight. I can see why everyone is picking Margo and rightfully so.....I'm actually hoping kermit can show his superior class and land at will against the mostly crude Margo. Margo's greatest advantage is his will, heart, desire, strength and chin these are Kermits biggest enemies but if he has excorcised those demons he should be able to starch Margo. If not he's going back to being a muppet baby.

All of you Gomez believers had almost put some crazy thoughts into this guy having a chance to upset Cotto. However, this morning on our local newspaper, an interview with Gomez came up in which he explained the experience thru his training camp on having to stop the training camp because of a Pancrea illness. For those who can read spanish, please check this out and give me your thoughts

It's been a crazy year for upsets, but I think Cotto takes this one without too much trouble.
