I never said Cotto was going to win a hard fight ... I'm not comparing the fighters ... i'm comparing the bouts and the overall outcome. I didn't say that the fighters were on the same level - as if that matters anyway. The hype going into the fight ... the rating of the fighters - You look at Diaz v Campbell ... no one gave Cambell a chance and figure that this was just a mandatory for Diaz en route to a fight w/ Pacquiao. You look at Cotto v Gomez ... now I didn't say that you can compare Cotto to Gomez or either fighter to Campbell or Diaz ... I'm just comparing the scenarios ... Cotto is undefeated ... he has a couple of big fights coming up if he were to win and you have Gomez who has nothing to lose and all to gain. Same situation that Campbell was in .... he was made a joke out of with his fight w/ Peden and the fact that he never won a championship fight. You look at Gomez he was on the contender and non of the contender winners have done anything significant and only 1 up until now has had a championship fight -- Manfredo got stopped by Calzaghe .... the networks have shown no love for the contender show or its participants.
The only advantage I give Cotto over Gomez is speed ... he has more but I don't think he'll utilize them. Cotto is the top dog and has nothing to prove, but he will aim to please the crowd and try and take him out. I've said before that if Cotto boxed more that most of his fights will be easier for him - but he doesn't box like he should. If he boxes and wins ... I don't see that fitting well with the large crowd filled with Puerto Ricans ... they want to see a fight and will booo if Cotto doesn't give them the fight they paid to watch and are used to seeing him fight.
People need to settle down. I'm not going to write a novel because most points have been made, but Cotto is going to destroy Gomez. I expect Gomez to look very active in the early rounds and throw lots of hard punches but he is going to either gas himself or take too many from Cotto in doing so. Cotto is going to t/ko him somewhere in the 4-6 range imo. There is absolutely nothing that Gomez does better than Cotto. I think the funniest thing is that anyone taking Gomez for the upset really cannot create a valid argument from an analysis standpoint. Its always just "he is bigger, he is strong, he is underrated" ------ yeh.....and the point is??? Being big and strong doesn't win fights and is a **** poor way to analyze a fight. Otherwise the B+C=greater than fighter A bull**** is getting old too. If anyone is seriously thinking about putting money on Gomez for the upset you might be better off using that cash as toilet paper to serve some sort of purpose.
What hype??? the hype for Cotto v Gomez....have I been living under a rock or something???? I did'nt know there was hype surrounding this bout. Oh well I do tend to fly off the radar at times. I picked the Galaxay warrior to win next........
I think that if u watch Cotto-Torres, and Cotto- Mosely u would see that Cotto has the ability to adjust when fighting agressively, and box when necessary. To me there is no doubt Cotto fights to win fights, and the only time he may give a round away is when he feels he is comfortably ahead, or in control of the fight.
Yep. The Mosley fight was a perfect example. I'm sure he could have won that fight 118-110 but he chose to play it safe in the second half
:good I like your comments. I am also a boxing fan and I also try to see things from an objective point of view. What I find amaizing is all the Cotto haters that are predicting an upset when I honestly feel that Gomez has only a 10% - 20% chance of pulling it off. I know haters have to do their job but damn... Let's be objective here. In boxing anything can happen at any given night but we all have to agree that in this case, an upset it's not likely to happen or at least, that it's not suppose to happen... My prediction on Saturday night is that Puerto Rico will be victorious over Mexico!!! One of the best rivalries of all time in boxing history!!!
It took him getting rocked to do that ... if Cotto wouldve boxed all 12 rounds - he probably wouldn't have been hurt ... I didn't say he gives away rounds ... I'm just simply saying that he doesn't use his boxing skills when he should ... he elects to brawl or trade with fighters that he could easily out box. He aims to please too much and runs the risk of getting hurt too much. The first rule that you learn when boxing is protect yourself at all times. He took some unneccessary shots with Mosley and with Torres. Given that he knew nothing about Torres (as a pro) he shouldve boxed more - but as soon as he got hit by a Torres shot, something clicked in his head to exchange.
Defenitly agree, haters are very responsible with their jobs :yep If Cotto loses to Gomez, than thats the definition of an upset. I too am rooting for Cintron and Cotto to win, but something tells me that if the classic rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico is going to live up to its reputation, we will be seeing another Mexican vs Puerto Rican fight in summer with the winners of this card facing off... but then again, i have been wrong many times before :good
Another Cotto advantage is that he is more skilled than Gomez AND hits much harder. Just speed? Come on.. Gomez has size, but that doesn't mean he is stronger than Miguel.
