My coach was a cuban fighter and was actually their goldenboy at some point. I can't really say what exactly they do since he doesn't really train us.... but based on what we do I would say they do a lot of bag work (stations), partner work (Neck strengthening and medicine ball work).

He is very old school, so idk

thanks. the bag work surprises me because i've seen cuban gyms and they don't really much equipment, but your coach could be from a time when cuba was less of a **** hole. i watched teofilo stevenson fight with sugar ray leonard as commentator and he said that cubans are come forward punchers that can't fight moving backwards, which is the opposite of most cubans, especially amateurs, today. i wouldn't be surprised if there was some radical change in styles through the generations. i could be way off though.

that said, i've also heard that cubans weightlift and hit things with sledgehammers.

THIS. My coach is big on intimidation and coming straight foward. His name is Jesse Ravelo; his name in cuba was Jorge Enrico Blanco

i'm more into counterpunching and footwork than coming straight forward. i read that a soviet trainer trained the cuban boxing team back in the day. i wonder why cubans counterpunch and fight off the back foot so much today? i'll ask classic lol

  6. They like a lot of body movement, things that look dicky in our gyms. Like star jumps, hopping, kicking in the air, grabbing your ankles, slipping nothing, lots of shadow boxing. It reminds me a lot of brazillian football if you know what i mean.

Loose body movements, it never seems forced. hope that contributes something.

It'd be great to able to goto the raphael trejio gym in havana one day.

Not sure how Americans would get around it but there are a few packages out there, you get to train with the boxers. Sparring and all that :)lol:). Theres footage of it on youtube.

Doesn't sound like a bad experience if you ask me, if you're in boxing for the long haul.

I love Cuban boxers. Cuban fighters like Rigondeaux and Kindelan have phenomenal technique and work rate.

Roach says a lot of good things about Rigondeaux. He said he hasn't been this excited about a fighter since Manny Pacquiao.

I'm still waiting for him to fight. It's already been about 6 since he fought and now he's just fading. He really needs to step it up; 29 is way too late as it is.
