I have a friend who has two assault convictions, A driving ban (now passed) and a public order conviction! Any idea on how he could go about getting into the states. The assaults were both a couple of years ago and in terms of punishment they are expired. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Im sure you can get prior confirmation from somewhere in the UK - you go for a meeting etc... if you're fearful of being knocked back.

Just don't tell them. You're in bother if you get up to something while you;re over there and they find out, but ticking all the "no" boxes on the immigration card should do it.

a mate tried to get in last year but got knocked back as he's thrown a drain pipe through a bird's window and the polis caught him. After a few weeks hassle with the american embassy etc. he was allowed in

I think its the US embassy you can contact prior to travelling to get authorisation.

Apparently they fingetprint on entry now and it brings up your Criminal record if you are unfortunate enough to have one.

If you are a british passport holder, youneed: A machine readable passport 9look for lots of chevrons at teh bottom of the photo page) and 6 months validity on your passport after your return date.

They will scan your index finger and retina upon entry. This will only flag up there and then if you've committed an offence on US soil. You are committing an offence by lying on teh entry card but that's the rist that you've got to take if you want to get in with a record.
