Is it worth tuning in for the Australian bout between Dennis Hogan & Kelly this weekend? I've never seen anything from Hogan before but am about to sit down and try and consume some footage... I consider Kelley an extremely limited fighter going nowhere fast. I've seen several of his under card bouts and the types of no hopers they bring in against him is quite frankly shocking. So, what's the low down on Hogan?
Haven't seen him fight. He does a lot of sparring with Jeff Horn so he should be fit & well-prepared. Wasn't aware of tv coverage for this so will try to check it out. Hooper v Quinlan on the undercard should be worth watching also. And Tim Tszyu versus some Kiwi.
Don't listen to him Russell. MP has a hidden agenda. He is stablemate of Jeff Horn and trained by the same trainer Glen Rushton. Horn said '' I never seen anybody train harder and he believes his strength and tenacity can carry him to victory and believes the inspirational effort of his sparring partner deserves to be rewarded with a world title. Horn continues the fight with Kelly will be a great bout and i think Dennis can go on to win a world title . It will would be something to have 2 world champs from the Stretton Gym.
I just don’t want a man named Dennis to be a world champion, so I can’t get behind him. Boxing already has enough issues without a Dennis on the scene.
I wish there was a dislike button, because this was a legitimately dog **** post CST. Butt? Pinoy? Chuck Norris? Does a soul know anything about the man?
Yes, a bit. Great engine and chin, but measures up below the world class bar in every other area. Sort of a well-rounded but not great at one thing fighter. Average or worse in most departments (speed, power). Stylistically he isn't too dissimilar to his buddy Horn, but a very poor man's version ...and subtract the lion's share of Horn's awkwardness/physical strength/adaptability. Kelly is like a cross between Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz, but not as good as that sounds. Fast, tough, high-volume feather-fist (more so than Hogan; difference between a guy that could break a few noses in sparring here and there and somebody that couldn't take out Nancy Kerrigan with a free swing 'o' the crowbar). That's really all there is to know about him.
I wonder how many people buy this at face value, then when checking his BoxRec notice that he's originally from Ireland, then go researching "is Crocodile Dundee actually Irish???"
Irish guy who was a decent national level amateur, went out to Australia to work and got back into boxing. He’s done well for himself all considered
