Anyone know who the fighter is with Jeff? It looks a bit like Billy Miske to me. This content is protected
That's Les Kennedy of Long Beach, California, who handed Max Baer his third defeat in 1930. (Maxie returned the favor a year later via devastating knockout.) Les was the last man to beat Bob Godwin before Godwin won the LHW Title.

As it happened, I stumbled across it a few months ago while idly surfing boxrec, so it was actually plain dumb luck I recognized it when you created this thread. I was obviously cross referencing Max Baer's record, curious about who managed to defeat him as a seriously dedicated student of pugilism before the shock of the Campbell tragedy. (As it turned out, Les Kennedy produced the only substantive defeat on Maxie's pre-Campbell dossier, 7-1-2 in rounds, the other two losses being a pair of early inconsequential third round DQs. Interesting that Kennedy was also Frankie's penultimate win, and that Campbell succeeded in knocking Les out two months before Kennedy originally defeated Baer. Now you know how I came to be able to identify him in the hand taping pose with Jeffries.)
