Right. My statement was in response to the others posters opinion that it would be hard to sell a fight there unless you were Boricua.

I think he is talking about The Arena at MSG it holds like 4k or 5k people. Totally different place.

You mean how they set it up for fights? It all depends on who is fighting though. When I was there for the Cotto-Clottey fight, they used the entire arena. Small fights, sure they're constricted to the amount of tickets that they think they'll sell, but big fights, they sell up to the nosebleeds.

Because it costs thousands and thousands of dollars just for them to put the key in the door and open it up for you. Then you have the unions, which makes everything so much more expensive. Plus NY state taxes. Doesn't make financial sense anymore to do a fight in MSG. If you wanna do a fight on the east coast, its cheaper to go to Boardwalk Hall in AC.

I don't know bout u guys but I was talking about the main part of MSG, and I still think that either PBF or PAC could sell it out.

Like he said it depends. If you are talking about Golden Glove matches or some HBO BAD then yes the theater is likely to be used.
But for major events like Pac vs X or PBF vs X, you will likely get the main arena which seats about 20K.

Like I said, the main has been rarely used for big fights because of operational cost and state income tax to justify it for big fights that can sellout the main stage.

The TS didn't specify a section. But since he's a Cotto fan that's probably seen the place jammed packed to the rafters with screamin Ricans, I'm sure he was talking about the main part of MSG which seats up to 19K.

I remember seeing the inside of it during the Malignaggi/Cotto fight.

It looked like an absolute shithole.

I heard a few years ago, that they're not having their monthly series shows there anymore, because of small-time corruption, fight-fixing, local organized crime, etc.

Boxing Scene: Will Manny Pacquiao ever fight here in New York City, perhaps at Madison Square Garden or the New York Yankees Stadium?

Bob Arum: You will never, ever ever, see Manny Pacquiao fight in New York city. Manny Pacquiao is a foreigner, and when he fights in Nevada or Texas, we take 30 percent out of his purse for the IRS.

And if he fought in New York, on top of that 30 percent, there would be an additional 14 percent tax, which he can get no credit for for his Filipino taxes because it's a state tax.

So you would in effect, be taking 14 percent out of his purse. And if I suggested to Manny Pacquiao that he come into New York and allow himself to be subject to New York taxes, he wouldn't speak to me. And he would be right not to.
