From the Scene... "Montreal, Friday, February 11th marks the return of Groupe Yvon Michels highly regarded FAST AND FURIOUS boxing series, presented by the Casino de Montreal in collaboration with Videotron, at the spectacular Bell Centre in Montreal. This series of 4 stellar events will return again on April 8th for its final installment, with burgeoning superstar David Lemieux (25-0-0, 24KO) in the main event. 2,117 fans rushed through the gates of the home of the legendary Montreal Canadiens this past October 29th to witness Lemieuxs crushing knockout of Hector Camacho Jr, and over 2,500 fans returned on December 3rd, enjoying the fantastic ambiance created by the Bell Centres exclusive new configuration created especially for the series." -No mention of Rubio, yet GYM posts on the Scene that Lemieux would fight in Montreal on Apr 8th; -No cigar on "Lemieux-Rubio purse bid" through google; -WBC's MW belt is now with Zbik, who's got Chavez Jr as a mando (Martinez was the titlist when Lemieux-Rubio was ordered by the WBC). Is this fight gonna happen? Is it still gonna be considered a title eliminator? Anybody knows WTF's going on?!
Thanks. Can't wait to see who wins it... "The winner of the bout moves a step closer to becoming the mandatory challenger for titlist Sebastian Zbik." - one step closer... as in, there's a whole bunch of steps to the process. ****. Zbik had become Martinez' mandatory being an interim champ for months, but what the hell has Chavez Jr done SINCE ZBIK WAS CROWNED to deserve such status? Nothing. And Sulaiman is totally overlooking the fact he told both Lemieux & Rubio this was going to be a fight that would 'determine the mandatory challenger'. I have a funny feeling that the winner of Lemieux-Rubio will have to face the winner of Wright-Macklin in order to get a shot at the belt. Macklin is ranked 4th or 5th at the WBC, and Wright is the name Chavez Jr needs on his resume. Not that it's bad deal, just pointing out that Chavez Jr benefits from the WBC's favouritism towards him at this time.
GYM and Rubio's promoter reached an agreement 15 minutes prior to the purse bid. The fight will be in Montreal on April 8. The winner of Zbik-Chavez will have the right to have one fight before he has to fight Lemieux-Rubio winner. It's a good thing Lemieux still has a few fights before he gets his shot, although Zbik or Chavez wouldn't be much of a problem for Lemieux. Still, he has to fight against different styles to be ready for the top dogs of the division.
Right on, just saw JL Legendre's article on it. If Zbik first gets passed Chavez Jr, he mentioned he could try to unify with either Sylvester or Sturm. That would slow things down a lot for David...
