Excerpts from: Borneo Showcase; Chris John vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (www.thesweetscience.com)

    By Scott Mallon

    http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/3317/borneo-showcase-chris-john-juan-manuel-marquez/

"...For whatever reason, Marquez and Nacho Biristain had earlier rejected a $750,000 payday to fight Manny Pacquiao and $1.5 million to fight Erik Morales. Marquez now finds himself fighting for the whopping sum of (Austin Powers moment, pinky finger to the mouth) ----- $31,250. Marquez is fighting for chickenfeed..."

this issue came after the pac-jmm rematch went falling. Team marquez were in a tussle against bob arum back then (but it still bad decision to reject those fights even if a problem exists with arum and team marquez. Marquez said Arum has favoritism on erik morales (that's why he rejected on the morales fight), but that's all the story i know.

Anyone of you guys know why exactly they rejected the morales fight? because from what i know, marquez has been calling out morales before this offer. And had they fought, marquez would have had good chance of beating erik.

Cos Nacho Beristan is a *** of a manager. He may be a great trainer but he ****ed up Marquez's career. He thought he could get more than 1.5mil for Morales and more than 750k for Pac II and made outrageous demands. Arum and HBO told him to **** off and then he had to go to Indonesia for peanuts.

"Principles???, Yeah right!" GREED is more like it. He wanted more than what he deserves. It was all about the money, and Nacho wanted to bargain with a businessman which was stupid. Pac on the other hand was willing on a 50/50 share, and since he was offered to fight for a much bigger purse when Team JMM was being stubborn, He obliged. (who wouldnt?!?) and it proved successful careerwise. Now JMM opted to fight CJ for a few thousands, and even got robbed of the decision. That is not Principle, that was stupidity!
It could have been JMM's or his managers decision, it was stupid. Pac had nothing to do with that. :deal

J.M.M and Nacho turned down Pac's offer because it would be only $100,000 more than he got in the first fight. As far as the Morales offer, Arum wants you to believe that J.M.M turned down Moraels, but Arum was pissed and took it very personal from my readings that J.M.M went to Indonesia to fight John. There was no real offer ever made for Morales-J.M.M. think about it...how could that fight not be made??? J.M.M wanted to fight Morales for years. Morales supposedly wanted the fight on short notice, and the fight at 130 when J.M.M was at 126. Nacho said no. Morales was kept away from J.M.M by Arum for years and J.M.M said Arum coddled Morales his whole career. Morales was just about done when he wanted to fight J.M.M and Morales was not even on J.M.M's radar when he wasn't good anymore.

There are people who think that either man could've won the fight, and you pick this judge's score as proof of anything? lol...Watch the fight. I thought the fight was won by J.M.M, but he did foul John.

before Divac comes in here to spin facts around, JMM was offered 750,000 to fight a Pacman rematch a 50/50 split but denied it demanding he get paid 1.5 million (the entire purse), Morales then throws the 1.5 million offer to JMM they wanted to fight against Pac but turned that down demanding $3 million too fight El Terrible, a payday Erik Morales has never had in his career until the Pac fights. So despite what that idiot Max Kellerman said, it was JMM who ducked Morales and not the other way around.
